Pouteria BUTYROCARPA Butter Sapote ~ENDANGERED~ LAST ONE!!
« on: June 21, 2022, 01:14:39 PM »
I have only 1 left for sale, who knows when you will find this opportunity again!!

Pouteria butyrocarpa (ready for up-pot, roots are healthy and at the bottom of the container)

$130 plus shipping (can fit in a medium flat usps for $17 or FedEx priority for $23)

Characteristics: Reddish trunk. When the trunk is bruised it smells like almonds. It is endemic in the "Hileia Baiana" region, and is only cultivated in botanical collections. The fruits pulp is pasty, and is rich in oil with a very pleasant flavor. The fruit can contain 1-3 seeds. This species is related to mamey sapote.

Propagation is only by seed, an endangered species.

This one is hard to come by let alone do all the seeds germinate or grow fast.  Grab it while you can!

Kinda regret selling mine on Ebay. I thought the cold hardiness would be the same as abiu which did terribly for me here.

Does anyone on TFF know if this species is dioecious or whether it is self-fertile speices (or not).

I haven't been able to find any information to this end.

Just curious . . .

Doesn’t seem to mention it being dioecious.  Related to Mammey.  Anyone able to translate?

I imported 3 separate times, the first batch was great, the other two were all dead. These are beautiful trees!

My bad I thought this was the fuzzy abiu, I only bought one seed from BUTYROCARPA species and it didnt germinate.

Seems pretty reasonable priced for a tree like this

I currently have three of these in the ground, three of five seeds germinated for me. They went dormant in January and still haven’t woken back up! Still very small trees, sticks really, but alive I think. Will update as they grow.

Yeah it never mentions that plus i've never heard of one in this family...but you never know.

translation:
it is a specie related to mamey sapote(Pouteria Sapota) from which it shares some morphological
characteristics
