Coming to Florida this Thursday 23rd-26th
« on: June 22, 2022, 02:23:42 AM »
Hello I’m visiting for the first time to Miami/homestead to visit fruit and spice park. Was wondering if there’s any other places to try fruits. Would be cool to try some mango varieties. Also if anybody wants to show off their garden I would love to visit that too. More tropical than my home so I’d love to see what you guys are growing. Also looking to buy plants

I don't know how far north you're willing to drive.  More options for buying mangoes (Broward and PB counties):

It may be a cheesy tourist attraction, but I really love Robert Is Here.  I bought a bunch of miracle fruit bushes at half the price of other places and they were great plants.  They have lots of fruit to sample, too.
I just really admire someone who started out selling fruit at the age of 6 and is still going strong 60 years later.

I have to second this. I was down there in first grade lol! He personally took the time to drive to his farms and get me a coconut tree!

If you want to get fruit head down krome ave…basically anywhere between fruit and spice park and Everglades…Lara farms and other nurseries dot the landscape everywhere. Lots of fruit vendors last time I was there a couple years back.

What plants are you looking to buy?

Thank you! I’ve been hoping to collect a Cherilata tree but I want it grafted on cherimoya so I’m also willing to buy scions. Also interested in other fruit trees too

Lara Farms is also in that area.  Cherilata isn't listed on the website, but you could message Julian through his Facebook site.  https://larafarmsmiami.com

Cherilata place is on the other coast, Fruitscapes. But call them first, their stock is not permanent. It's a peaceful drive across the swamp, could see an alligator if you're lucky.

Long drive from Homestead to Pine Island--3 1/2 hours--but you might find mangoes there, too!

So far from my visit I got to try for the first time yellow hog plums, Mamey Americana, Eugenia victoriana, campomanesia Sp, cashew apple, red jabo, and I found a Olosapo on the ground but it doesn’t look fully developed but is ripe enough to try tomorrow. I was looking for the cinnamon apple tree at fruit and spice and couldn’t find it. This is the fruit I wanted to try the most! Can anybody tell me where the tree is located approximately?

It is close to the olosapo tree.

Thank you guys for all the reply’s. I tried a fruit called “Hagis” Syzygium tripinnatum But it’s also listed as Eugenia victoriana? Also is the campomanesia Sp the same as xanthocarpa? Had a very strong taste

How does the okosapo smell? Fully ripened it smells like burnt sugar. Cinnamon apple is towards the back…

The plant was erroneously labeled as Eugenia victoriana when it arrived at the Park. There is apparently some question as to the "tripannatum" species identification.

Thank you for the info! I was also curious about the 2 trees labeled Rheedia Sp and 1 Garcinia Sp. I heard 1 is lemon drop mangosteen. I’m assuming it’s the Garcinia Sp? Do you know what the Rheedia are?

F and S labeling is outdated and not the best. Rheedia was classified into garcinia genus back then…also when I was there they were calling rollinia as rollinia deliciosa. But now it’s not rollinia it’s annona muscosa…I’ve heard people say they like rollinia classified as a separate genus.
