Rare fruit tourism
« on: July 23, 2023, 12:11:35 AM »
I've barely taken any vacation in the past 3 years, and I'm ready for one! I've never been to Hawaii, and I think it would be fun to go. Where do you go for fun fruits and food in Hawaii?

Not too sure about Hawaii but we will have lots of fruits in Costa Rica I’m the next few months. Durian starts for us in late august.

If you go to Hawaii, hit up Frankie's nursery if you're headed to Oahu.  They have rare fruits for sale and some juices.  Locals on here probably know more areas or markets to get some.

Durian season is just ending now (in Hawaii). You should go to SE Asia , Davao city is a great place for fruit hunting in august

When you mention a visit to Hawaii are you referring to the Big Island or the state in general?  From what I can gather, the Island of Hawaii seems to have the most active fruit growing of the four.  If that is mostly your reason to visit
I would recommend the big island.  Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers:  http://www.htfg.org  is located there with branches on the other islands.  I live on Maui and could make recommendations for here if you wish as there are a few tours one can take.

It's not cheaper from the east bay. and probably not in general. Unless you really like cow milk or .... I dunno what else is supposedly more expensive in hawaii?
