What kind of conditions did you grow it in, sun and soil? Mine seems to suffer in summers.

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Re: Melon varieties for Florida
« on: January 14, 2024, 08:42:40 PM »
Watermelons are pretty easy. Started working on my own landscape of them last year. I grew strawberry, blacktail mtn and sugar baby. Lots of soil fertility recommended, lots of compost, mounds are helpful, not too much overhead water if possible.

I've got some growing pretty well in florida. Seed from palologrower.
Hope they do well thru the winter.

I grew two types last spring. Athena and another. Grew Edisto the year before. Barring too much rain, boring insects are the major issue, plants were healthy and produced well, but probably 80 percent or more had worms. This is with spraying BT. I wonder if there any any varieties tolhat are rstoant to these pests? Perhaps netting them would be am option. Also just pray for drier weather.  Good luck they are delicious, watermelons are definitely much florida hardy.
