You can harvest almost any time after it has grown significantly.   The top of the tuber is the best for replanting but almost any pieces will work. Also the aerial tubers are ideal for starting new plants. It is a different family from sweet potato and dioscorea alata yams are not very sweet, maybe as sweet as some potatoes. Enjoy your yams!

We could possibly plant them at Palma Sola Botanical Park in Bradenton. I help maintain it for the Manatee Rare Fruit Council. Super microclimate with breadfruit doing very well.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Anyone Growing Tea?

Yaupon holly/ ilex vomitoria is one of my favorite drinks. in my opinion it far outshines any mate i have tried (though never had that fresh). Yaupon gets a bad rap due to the vomitoria epithet. This is in relation to its use in purging rituals. It was traded widely throughout north american by the native americans, it has been found as far as new mexico and st louis (cahokia). it was also a major drink in SE US used by european settlers and their descendents. Don't let the name turn you of!! Extremely easy to grow, no pest issues i have ever seen.
Roasted yaupon holly makes a delicous, almost chocolately flavored beverage. The heating also makes the caffeine more bioavailable.

Hoping for wind to keep cold from settling, trees in eastern Sarasota i'm a bit worried for, may be down at 34 friday morning. Going to cover small trees in ground with trashcans. Collecting blankets, sheets, trashcans. Covering plants in brush seemed to help last year.

gREAT Seller! just got all my seeds in great shape, and he refunded some he doubted viability. Good communication. Thanks dude!
