Man some of these tree removal responses make me feel odd.

I removed all the trees on my property with a shovel, a sawzall, a farm jack, and a 10lb axe.

The reaction from my neighbors and the HOA was priceless.

Officially now a hype plant since Paul is telling everyone this is the greatest mango ever.

I await the 15th video of him pulling more vigorous trees out of his yard to plant this.

 ;D

They are making some bold claims, I am going to wait until I taste a few. I'm really satisfied with Lemon Zest, Lemon Meringue and Orange Sherbet so I can't see pre-ordering a 1 gallon tree at this point. Maybe I'll graft a couple branches down the road if it is truly tropically delicious.

This is where I am on this.

Honey Kiss and Little Gem are great producers to have.

I've got a few that need it, but if I want fruit i'm not touching anything now. I agree. A good time to suspend any mulching/N fertilizer as well

Sorry if this is a dumb question but why would you suspend mulching? I thought that helps insulate roots from cold?

To reduce Nitrogen.

Wow, I'm in the camp to stop tipping by the end of July since we have the weirdest winters now.

Good luck with this one, for now I will stick with OS.

Sounds like its the same thing.

Just had a few this year.

They weren't huge sized but definitely not small.

The season for them was around May/June.

Mine wont hold more than a few right now, it seems to need some size before being able to hold a bunch of fruit.

Lots of aborts this summer.

I've had it multi grafted on one of my trees for around 4 years now.
From what I've seen, slower than a Pickering.
Flowers easy but doesn't hold fruit that well. At least this far west.
I'm having similar experiences with my pina colada

This is what had me pull this one. We are similar in distance from the ocean.

That's disappointing to hear. Anthracnose destroying the bloom?

Flowers well, just wont hold fruit to maturity from what has been reported.

I had to pull my 40-26 out after finding out it doesnt do well this far west.

Forever stuck in a pot now.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Palm Tree Removal - HOA - Best Approach
« on: August 08, 2024, 09:35:13 AM »
Just hearing about HOA's makes my stomach swirl. Seems they are often more trouble than they are worth. Good luck!

I agree but I lucked out and ended up with 3 mangoes, 4 mamey, 1 starapple, and a sapodilla in my front yard.

This is the only HOA I ever been in that is cool with fruit trees. Tons of front yards here with fruit, maybe not as much as me though.

They even turn a blind eye to all the people who plant fruit trees in common areas by their homes.

Though if you don't mow your lawn, weed, or pressure clean your driveway they are going to bother you for sure.

My HOA lost their mind when I dug up all the trees on my property.

The palm trees I had to axe the roots out.

I was supposed to put in a request but I skipped that, they were upset.

But they really only cared about the trees in the front yard.

Busy tipping trees in anticipation for next season. Looking forward to  mango I've never harvested from my own trees.

This is my first year with fruit, it’s great not having to buy mangoes finally.

Plus the giving away of top tasting mangoes is so satisfying when people come back so excited about mangoes.

They are forgiving if you leave them on the tree, won't develop off flavors.
Not my personal experience, what I've heard from them that know.

They tend to not want to ever fall off either when mature.

On this video Walter says it can be picked when they show yellow.

This has worked well for me this year with honey kiss.

Did it flower?

Did you tip that flower end?

They used to fall off but most seem to be stuck now

Too much sun for the new growth maybe.

Was the plant in full sun when you bought it?

Walter Zill said today he has about 3 weeks left of mangoes.

He is closed on Saturdays but should be open Sunday morning.

I'd just catch the (closing) 3-week window (the 7424 Hypoluxo location?) but I just called the number and got a vm that says they have no weekend hours. :-\

You called Gary. Walter only closes on Saturdays.

It's been a while since I ever heard anything exciting about mamey.
It's just not a big fruit on the meta so far.
When someone like Julian Lara says it's good, it's something of note.
His family has been growing and finding new mamey varieties for years.

If you haven't heard anything "exciting" in a while about Mamey, allow me to introduce you to the previous best ever Mamey, available from the same place :D

If you need the newest best ever avocado, caimito, and white sapote videos, they should probably pop up on the same screen.

Paul always finds the best tropical fruit with no history at all.

23
I took a look today and I have this kind of coloration on the older leaves.

They always look blown out toward the end of their cycle.

24
Thats great to hear.

Growing this up in Orlando?

Can it handle the cold up there?
