Do you have a list of varieties of mangoes available?  I want some scions mailed to me.  What do you charge for the scions with FedEx shipping?
Thanks.
Marc

Hi Adam,
I want some scions of the best available varieties of A. squamosa, A. reticulata, A. cherimoya and atemoya.  I have A. glabra, A. muricata and A. squamosa seedlings for rootstock.  What would you suggest as the varieties to choose and on which rootstock?  These are for my trees in Brazil and usually the rootstock here is A. glabra for in ground planting because of the heavy rainfall and clay soil.  I can also do them in pots if graft take better on specific rootstock.  I think it would be hard to find anyone with more experience with Annona here in the USA, so any suggestions or resources that you can give me will be treasured.

Thanks,
Marc

I have had severe anthracnose infestations on my mangoes with no fruit production (flower panicles get infected and die before it fruits)  I want to plant some new varieties with the most resistance to anthracnose.  Any suggestions on which I should try?

Thanks for the insight.  I guess what I really want to know now is if top-working can be done to get to a mature producing tree quicker.  I have 3 mature trees that I could top-work, but there are several young sabarah seedling that I could graft onto if that is more reliable than top-working.

Just got back from my farm in Brazil and counted 3 mature Jaboticabas growing there.  Unfortunately, all of them are the common variety.  Has anyone ever tried grafting to produce other varieties?  I want to try the red hybrid and white varieties.  Should I try grafting or would I be better off just starting fresh with seedlings?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum and to tropical fruit growing as well.  I just purchased a small farm in southern Brazil that I would like to develop.  There are many different fruit trees already on the property, but I want to add more.  Many of the trees were neglected by the previous owners, but I would like to bring them back to health.  About a dozen citrus trees there seem to have returned to the Rangpur rootstock, so I would like to top work these trees.  There are two large mangos, but the former owner says they have never produced.  (I think anthracnose may be the cause in this wet area.)  I would like to top work these mangos as well.  Being relatively cool for mangos at a zone 9B/10A, any suggestion for a variety not susceptible to Splitting and to Anthracnose, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc Doyle

Hi George.  You seem to be the man I need.  I would like to buy a few type of mango scions from you, but I want to make sure they will be the best for my climate.  I just bought a farm in southern Brazil in zone 9B/10A.  There are two 20-30' mango trees there that the seller said never produced any fruit for the time he owned it.  I think part of the problem is Anthracnose as there is a lot of rain when the trees are flowering.  I see signs of fungus on all the citrus as well.  So this year, I will spray and may even try to protect some limbs from the heavy rain with shade cloth to see if that helps.  I also want to try top working the tree with several varieties that will have the best chance for survival.  Anthracnose resistant and split resistant, as the temp do briefly drop below 30F every now and then for very short periods.  I was thinking of trying Pickering, Coconut Cream and Bailey's Marvel.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know.  I am very new at this and it seems you are the one to talk to.
