Title: Variegated Thomasville Citrangequat
Post by: eyeckr on June 09, 2019, 03:07:30 PM
I was checking out all plants this morning and something caught my eye amongst my potted trees. I saw that one of my Thomasville seedlings started making what appears to be variegated leaves. Hopefully it will stabilize and I can propagate it.

Nice, I would cut off all the lower branches & force the growth on that sport.

Absolutely Millet and I'm definitely going to cut off all the other non variegated branches to force growth into this one sport. This tree is going to get a lot more of my attention.

May be to graft the buds from the most variegated leaves?

Of course, keep in mind that variegated cultivars may not have as much vigor, because they have less chlorophyll, and might not be able to grow as fast or recover from damage as easily.

I don't want to bust anyone's bubble, but I've never really understood what all the excitement is about when it comes to variegated cultivars. To me they look a bit sickly. Personally, I prefer the look of non-variegated, but that's just me.
But if you want to count variegated cultivars are rare, for a collector, I suppose that counts too.
