This tree is really hard on itself.  It breaks branches and loads up so much fruit it's hard on the tree.  Too much of a good thing.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado seedling fruited
« on: January 14, 2023, 07:02:11 PM »
This tree is a volunteer off a nearby fuerte tree.  Dropped fruit, sprouted, grew and a few years later made a few avocados.  It actually tastes pretty nice and its early.   Seed is kind of big, otherwise it seems decent. The tree is growing like a beast and if it fruits every year then it may be a keeper.  If anyone wants to grow it I will give you scions for free.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Micro sprinklers used
« on: November 26, 2022, 07:20:00 PM »
These are what I use for the first 2 years on my trees.  Now my trees have graduated to bigger tips and I have no use for these.

They are 30 cents each new.  I'm selling for 10 cents each.  I have around 200 of them.  Some have some calcium buildup, they can easily be cleaned up by soaking in vinegar.  The cap comes off and they are fully cleanable and can be made like new over and over forever.  These go on 1/4" tubing and a stake and point at the tree to make a circle.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Seedless lychee
« on: August 28, 2022, 11:26:53 PM »
I got one of Quang Ong's "seedless" lychee trees a couple years ago.  Its not that big yet but it made a lot of fruit.  Some are fully seedless and some have large seeds.  Its pretty strange.  The fruit are big and look like emporers.  Ill post a pic later when I get the photos off another device.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Plum cherry cross (pluerry)
« on: June 19, 2022, 09:35:38 PM »
Just got my first crop of "sweet treat" pluerry.  I think its from zaigers.  Trees was from dave wilson.  The fruits are really nice.  Worth a shot growing.  It fruited well here even with less than the stated 450hrs of required chill.  Seems like a winner.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Overhyped avocados
« on: May 26, 2022, 12:04:57 PM »
Just had to rant about this...  Sorry in advance  :D  I noticed theres so many overhyped avocado types.  I tried growing as many as possible and found most to be uninspiring.  Either the flavor is not there, or the tree has bad growth habits, or some other problem.  Many of these are hyped up by the UC breeding program or by the grounds keepers at the UC Irvine grove.  And some have just been around forever and for some reason people keep propogating them even though theres much better options  ???

My chainsaw has been getting a real workout lately.  Heres a short list of ones that have had a date with the chipper.
