Myrciaria floribunda: Guavaberry aka Rumberry Sprouts
« on: May 10, 2020, 07:02:58 AM »
Hello everyone,

I have several Guavaberry sprouts for sale.  These are the purple variety, there are also orange ones but purple are considered the best here in the Caribbean.

If you are unfamiliar with Guavaberry, they have a unique flavor with a pronounced spice.  The tree itself is beautiful with a peeling, multi colored trunk, beautiful dark green foliage that flushes with a fluorescent green.  They are also fairly drought tolerant.

In the Caribbean, the tree produces fruit around the fall time of year and its very common to see folks gathering buckets of these berries to make Guavaberry rum, tarts, and jams. A 5 gallon bucket of berries goes for about $500!

I was selling seeds back in September 2019 so some people on the forum may have some babies.  The seeds take 4-6 months to sprout.  I have patiently waited and now have several sprouts for sale.  They are about 3-4" tall but definitely ready to be re-potted and will then take off!

I am offering them up at (3) for $20 plus flat rate priority shipping of $10.  Sorry, no shipping to California.

Agreed, a great seller. I bought Rumberry seeds from him last year. Considering their spotty germination rate, his seedling price was very reasonable. So, if I needed a seedling, I would probably dig up an old post on the off chance he might have one. I have not seen too many other growers offering Rumberry here on the Forum.

Hi everyone, thanks for the positive feedback!

Unfortunately, I have decided not to ship Guavaberry seedlings due to problems with customs.  I need to remove them from soil to guarantee they make it there ok and I am concerned they would get too shocked from this.

I should have more seeds available in about a month and will make a new post when I do.

Hey Digigarden!

I loved all those Eugenia pics you were posting.  Very cool to know they are being utilized in DR for landscaping, I love them all and we have several of the same type here on St. Croix.  I do specialty landscaping and I am trying to get my customers to recognize the value in these species.

As to your question, there is a Eugenia that grows here which looks almost identical to Floribunda, I believe that is what you have in your picture.  I think the variety is Eugenia procera.

I will have more Floribunda seeds later in the year, around October/November.

Take care everyone and thanks for your interest.
