Really liked the vid, the trees are tall so portrait isn't the worst! Good job including your son and getting him in on filming and editing, it is an important skill in the online age.

Interesting to see their shape(s) and definitely want to get some scions from you once my trees are ready.

Nice video Brad. It's nice to see how large your trees are with the fruits. It helps to see the growth habits of the various varieties you grow. Now I see a few more varieties I need to graft to my tree.

Do you need to thin Reed? My small reed graft is holding too many fruits (marble size), and I thinned some but need to do more if they don’t drop.

I was really surprised with the super upright growth habit of so many of those. It seems all the Hass out here are big fatty fat fats that are ultra wide. I would definitely like to graft upright varieties onto my Hass so that it doesn't smother the rest of the garden (if that's their usual habit you note)

California is dry as a bone. If you don't water, it don't grow! This said, I have been trialing nitrogen fixing plants in my orchard around the base of trees and seeing really promising results so maybe "weeds" aren't what we think of them as.

The trees look great Brad.  I can’t believe how much growth your trees put on in such a short time. I recall you have a productive well. That well water will be priceless in the coming years if not already.  My avocados look like crap. I just don’t have the water for them.  My wells have significantly reduced productivity over the pst two years.  I scheduled my well guy to drill again on my property 9 months ago and it looks like my turn is coming up this month.  He tells me that he is already booked out for another year. CA water situation is at dire threat levels.

Gregs videos and write ups are much higher quality than mine.  He sometimes does videos here or takes pictures for his blog.  He has excellent videos, people should check them out.  His pinkerton video from recently was really good and he did a GEM video thats really nice filmed on a big farm. 

I havent tried Nimlioh yet.

Yeah I put a bunch of artichokes and strawberry plants all over the place since the space between trees is getting wet anyway, may as well get something off it.

I have some questions about the tall trees--the ones pretty much growing straight up.  Will you ever have to top them?  How would they respond?  The reason why I ask is that we have Florida varieties that also grow straight up, and I'm wondering how that should be handled.

It just depends on the variety.  Reeds kind of get screwed up when they get topped.  But others like bacon and zutano handle it really well and I top 5-10ft off bacon every year because it just wants to go tall and be huge.  Sometimes you just have to do it and then do a follow up pruning if things go wonky.  You really dont want over 15ft tall or harvesting is a big pain.  I have some trees that have to be harvested with a pole picker and its really a pain in the ass.  Thats why the newer varieties like GEM are popular.  Doesnt get as huge as hass and makes harvesting and high density plantings easiy.
