FA 5 rootstock
« on: November 12, 2024, 03:04:17 PM »
i did some reading about FA5
and could not find any cons about it.

Does someone have experience with FA5 as rootstock in containers for zone 8?

FA5 does not come true from seed. You can get only rooted budwood or plants from in-vitro propagation. I have only rooted plants that grow very slow. I cannot recommend  FA5. For potted trees I would prefer Poncirus and Poncirus Flying Dragon.

In their scientific article, Forner et al. (2003) describe F-A 5 as being polyembryonic, meaning that it comes true from seed. You can find more information in their article: Forner, J. B., Forner-Giner, M. A., & Alcaide, A. (2003). Forner-Alcaide 5 and Forner-Alcaide 13: Two new citrus rootstocks released in Spain. HortScience, 38(4), 629–630. https://doi.org/10.21273/HORTSCI.38.4.629.
