I've got roots on some of the cuttings in a jar as well. Way ahead of any of the grafts I did lol

Yes, I also grafted  2-3 different passiflora varieties on my large vine but none are growing new buds yet.

I was in hospital two weeks ago and the cuttings, still wrapped in plastic just as they were received, had started making roots (all but one ).  They had sat in the house in low light during that week of my absence.

The rooted ones have now been potted up and are in shade under a mister.  I lost two of the potted ones which turned brown and died, but the rest are still green.  No buds pushing yet, though.

Fingers X-ed!

Wow, that was a surprise. Hope you are feeling better, and your cutting starts to leaf out soon.

Going to be totally honest and say I sat on these for longer than I should have.  I immediately had them soaking in water in a cup but I don't think they liked going from dehydrated to super-hyrdated.  I threw the 10 or so cuttings into a shallow pot filled with 50/50 perlite and vermiculite to try and salvage the situation.  Its been maybe a few weeks and some inevitably dried out and won't make it, but I did notice probably about 4 of them are still green.  I stirred up the soil on the smallest one and it is already rooting so not all was lost.

I doubt I will be the first to fruit these for the challenge, but the Quadrangularis should be a nice companion vine for my Passiflora Nitida in case it decides to also be self-sterile. :)

SDPirate, at least you got one cutitng that may survive.

Since we ended this shipment of cuttings, I put some of the last ones in a container with water just to make sure they would grow roots. Here's some photos of those cuttings today.

I will probably plant these in soil this weekend.

I threw away all the extra cuttings since I have the large vine and don't need any more rooted cuttings.

I might be out. I got roots and a little leaf on one cutting, then it started to shrivel. As a last effort I planted it in a pot outside. The others still had green at the node on the bottom, but no roots. I'll know soon enough if all turned black and kicked it

I am also out of the running for this Challenge!

Alas, while I got roots on all but two of the dozen or so of the cuttings that I received, once they were planted up all eventually turned brown and died.

Maybe IF there's a next time Challenge similar to this one I might have better success.

Best of Luck to all the remaining participants.

I got one to root really well in water, it stopped growing once I put it in soil but our overnight temps have been in the 40s which is probably why.
All of my grafts failed, probably rotted due to low temps.

Hi all, just curious how many of the people who receive these cuttings have them growing now. It's been about 4 months since we started this challenge.

Please post below your status, even if it was a complete fail so that I know how many cuttings made it.

If my vine grows out more branches by next spring, I can send out more to those who didn't get any good roots to form. I do have 2-3 test cuttings I rooted in water so if anyone had 100% failure would like to buy one, send me a PM.

FYI: I think the baby squirrel in the photo I saved was the culprit that ate up all of my Sangue e Latte fruits on my tree in one evening. I saw a small squirrel on the grafted branches and didn't think anything about it that night and all my green fruits were completely gone the next morning.

Wes, that cutting is growing well, congratulations. I hope you get flowers next year and then be the first to have a fruit on it. I'm curious to see how the fruit will be.

side note:
Yes, my purple fruit passion vine are tough, easy to root and it gets fruits without requiring hand pollination. If anyone else would like to grow that one, I can sell cuttings for $2 each plus shipping box ($10-sm flat rate, or $17-med flat rate) depending on length of cuttings you want. I'll be cutting back my vine again this month. Offer only for forum members, 6 month.

I'm out of the race this year as I reported earlier:

I got roots on all but one cutting but when planted up and placed in the shade under my pergola they all eventually turned brown and failed.  [ sigh ]

Well, maybe next year . . .

UPDATE: Just for the record (on this thread) I'm out of the race this year because while all
the cuttings (except one) that I received struck roots.  Then after they were potted up and
placed in the shade under my pergola they all just gradually turned brown and died.

Well, maybe next year . . . .

Cheers!

Hear ya Paul, same for me.  I got a couple with some roots but one really did not fare well from the beginning and the other was the same deal, just slowly browned until death in the shade.  Bummer because I wanted a partner vine for my P. Nitida.  Oh well.

Here's a few photos of the cuttings I rooted in water to make sure it works.

I have two for sale, the tall one is $10 plus shipping (approx. $17), so total is $27.
The small one is $5 plus shipping (approx. $12), so total is $17.

If anyone would like to buy these, send me a message.
