Help ID this plant, a tropical edible tuber?
« on: September 25, 2022, 05:45:13 PM »
Hey Forum,

I was visiting a friend recently and remarked on the leaves of a plant I’d never seen before and he gave me an off shoot of what he described as “I don’t know what the hell it’s called but it produces a giant edible potatoe and here grow one too.”

Can anyone ID this?

Thanks,
Joe

Wow Nate and daintree I think you guys nailed this one, because now that I think of it my buddy also said it’s related to the corpse flower… need to read up further on this and if it’s even edible, definitely the most unusual plant I own now lol.

Looks like Konnyaku.
Handle cut tuber with care (gloves) due to oxalate irritation.

Be careful about eating this. It will need very thorough cooking at minimum and still may not be a real edible type.
They are known to cause throat itchiness
