Anyone know what this is
« on: September 25, 2017, 07:11:57 PM »
This plant was given to me by TravelingFriend, he never specified what it was. It's been growing for awhile and it's seemed to have beared fruit does anyone know what this plant is?

I'm pretty new to gardening so I have no clue what this could be.

Looks like Popcorn Cassia (Senna didymobotra).  If you smash a leaf it should smell like popcorn.  Looks like a caterpillar has been eating it.  It is a favorite host plant for the Giant Cloudless Sulphur butterfly.  No fruit (seedpods tho), but beautiful flowers.  Check the smell of crushed leaves.

Thanks Peter! I think you're right. I have a couple of these trees on my place here but I didn't know what they are called. I always called them "candelabra trees". Beautiful.

It's supposed to be medicinal and probably fixes nitrogen. A beautiful tree.
