Hey there,

Your seedling looks healthy from what you described! Honestly, slow growth isn’t uncommon for this species, especially in the first couple of years. If there’s no yellowing, browning, or legginess, it probably just needs time. Make sure it’s getting enough warmth and humidity, and try feeding with a balanced, diluted fertilizer during the active growing season to encourage a bit more vigor. I’m growing one too, and mine’s also taking its sweet time, so you’re not alone! I’d definitely be interested in trading pollen once they flower. Best of luck, and keep us posted on its progress!

Looks like a useful tool that can help many of us. With a smaller sized mesh 2mm it can also be used to keep out pests like the silba adipata (black fig fly).

Hi there, thank you for the compliment and suggestion! We do plan on making a new version that comes with insect netting.

That would be amazing. They’re pretty much throughout the state of California now. But others still have problems with beetles and borers so I think it’s a good ideal. So many new invasive insects now. And the bird and squirrel mesh is also a huge problem here.

Yea this product is mainly for bird protection. Squirrel protection is not guaranteed as they can bite through anything so the netting won't be enough to stop them. However, some customers have said that it did stop squirrels so I'm not sure.  :D

Not very effective against gophers and voles. Except the flying sub species

Hi there, you're right! It is mainly for protection against birds. Some people said it also worked against rodents/squirrels but that is not guaranteed since they can bite through anything.

This seems like spam to me. I think I am going to delete this post and the account.

Is it against the rules to advertise your own product?  Seems like a decent idea and they aren't posting more often then once every 8+ months.  I personally won't be buying one, but know some folks who might be interested in looking into it  :D

Hi Brad, thank you for the compliment!

Interesting product.

If a forum member is also representing their business on the site, it is a good idea to contribute to the community in other threads, and not just post info and links about products.

Thank you for the compliment, I understand and will contribute more to the community  :)

A forum member can advertise their own product if they are active forum members that actually partcipiate. This person appears to be just an account to advertise the business.

Also, the username and email address don't seem to match up with the name of the person who owns the business. That's why I think it's a spam account or some paid to advertise the business on different forums.

Hi murahilin,

I apologize if my post came across as spammy or solely promotional. I’m not a paid advertiser or someone hired to promote the business. I’m actually part of the family behind the product and have been closely involved in its development and testing.

While I understand that the post is an advertisement, I genuinely believe the product could be helpful and relevant to members of this forum. From the comments and questions so far, it seems like others are finding value in it as well.

I’ll make more of an effort to contribute meaningfully to discussions beyond just this product. Thank you for pointing this out, and I appreciate your work in keeping the forum authentic and helpful for everyone.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / 20 ft TREE Umbrella Netting Frame Kit
« on: April 19, 2025, 07:41:29 PM »
I’m a fruit grower based in Southern California, and over the years, my family and I have dealt with the frustration of birds and animals wiping out our summer harvests, especially from our tall Pakistan Mulberry (20 ft) and Loquat (20 ft) trees. After several prototypes starting in 2019, we finally developed a Fruit Tree Netting Frame Kit that offers lightweight, durable, and easy-to-install protection for tall fruit trees. The frame consists of carbon fiber which makes it resistant to corrosion and strong wind, lasting up to years of use.

Last summer, we launched it as an official product, available both on Amazon and our website. It’s been a game-changer for us, and I hope it can help fellow growers too.

If anyone is interested or have any questions, email me at info@eaglelandinc.com. Thank you all!

They use something kinda similar to this on Yangmei farms.

With the Black fig Fly affecting much of the Fig growing regions around Southern California, this product can help preserve the harvest by creating a physical barrier against the BFF. Depending on the size of the mesh, it could allow the pollinating fig wasp to enter while blocking the BFF.

Even if the mesh size blocks the pollinating fig wasp, this device could still be useful for blocking out the BFF for common figs that don’t require pollination.

John, you may want to consider posting your product on Ourfigs forum. For those that don’t know the USDA currently has no real solution to the BFF infestation. You may also want to consider posting about your product on the California Rare Fruit Growers magazine. You should be able to reach a larger audience.

WOW, that is so interesting! Thank you so much for all the information and resources. I will be looking into that right away. I guess my frame's main advantage over the Yangmei farm one is that it's much easier to set up for the average backyard fruit grower, and its bottom is tied to the trunk which prevents animals and bugs from entering if switched to mesh of course. Thank you again that was extremely helpful.

I just zoomed in on the picture to get an idea of the mesh size and it looks like the mesh is too large to block out the BFF but if there were enough interest, you may consider creating a new version with smaller mesh made specifically to block out the BFF. Just a thought.

Simon

Good point! Yes you are right, the current netting is only meant to block out animals. If you check out the mulberry tree in the picture, I used mesh for that one. The problem with mesh is that it increases the weight of the entire thing quite a bit because it's much denser. And it will be heavy to raise up. However it is definitely possible I will consider adding more variations with mesh! Thank you.

these are going to take off. Ive seen them in use already, although i cant recall

Thank you! I’d love to know where you saw it but it’s ok! ;D

This looks very interesting, thanks for sharing!

Simon

Thank you!

Interesting! How well does it hold up against heavy wind? Can this thing be modified into something for cold protection?

It holds up against wind very well since I made it using fiberglass which makes it very durable. For cold protection, you can replace the bird netting I have on there with frost cloth. However, I think frost cloth will make the frame a lot heavier because it’s much denser than bird netting. The frame will still be able to hold the weight but raising up the frame might require 2-3 people.

Hi all, I am a fruit grower based in Socal. This summer, my family and I came up with a Fruit Tree Netting Frame Kit that offers full protection for trees of all sizes and shapes against animal damages. The frame+netting is very light weight, durable, and easy to assemble/install on your tree.

I initially started making prototypes in 2019 for my Pakistan Mulberry Tree (25 ft) and Loquat Tree (20ft) which would get completely eaten up every summer by birds and animals before we get a chance to enjoy anything. This summer, I released it as an official product both on amazon and my website.
