Title: Variegated varieties and shade?

Is there any truth to the rumor that variegated varieties of citrus prefer dappled shade over full sun? I have variegated pink lemon and centennial kumquat that have seen better days and I am wondering if they might perk up a bit if I move them to a better, more shady location like some oak woods.

I have no idea about citrus specifically, but all of my variegated houseplants that I have prefer more sun than their non variegated counterpart. If the plant is young then shade in general is always better, but if its a big tree, I'd expect it to want more light due to the lack of chlorophyll variegation causes

In the above post, Tru suggested that variegated plants require more sun, due to the smaller portion of green pigmentation (chlorophyll) portion of the leaf produces less energy that a leaf that is entirely green.
