Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Which is better, Rambutan or Longan?
« on: November 13, 2022, 11:31:37 PM »
Longan seem to have poor shelf life so i think that's part of the reason why. I prefer longan since it is easier to eat imo. The meat isn't stuck to the seeds.

I agree, i would love to grow Maprang and mayong chid. From what i heard it's hard to grow in fl? I still want to try it tho lol
Slower growers, and weaker root systems. I've seen a decent sized one, but still way off from fruiting. I wish I bought some.
From what i research in Thai, younger tree and newly planted tree must protected from direct sun until established.
Roots must be protected with mulch.
When planting in the ground, do not let the roots fall apart. Wait for the  dirt in the pot to dry out before planting. That way the dirt hold its shape. You can deep water it after planting.
Do not fertilize the tree until you see new growth. Give very little cow maneuver compost. (It doesn't like salty? Do not use chicken maneuver because it's too salty)

My maha have flowers too but someone told me just let it be. Will see what happen. My tree is in 15 gallon half wine barrel tho so i could cover it up when needed.

Maybe other members have better opinion

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Plants for sale

I received my package yesterday. Plants arrive with missing order but it got resolved fast with great communications. I also received extra santol and kasturi which is very kind of you.  The only one looking quite shock from shipping is the Bohang start apple(leaf was a little dry and it got worst today. I'm not sure if i over water or it doesn't like the soil i use). I'll be babysitting it closely. Thank you so much for your wonderful plants. I'll take good care of them :D

Yellow mangosteen

I can't remember what else i have but it's pretty much 90% of my seedlings right now lol. I should start labeling my plants. It's getting hard to remember what they are now.

My package arrived fast. Thank you so much for the extra seeds. I really appreciate it. I'm excited to germinate them and taste the fruits in a few years. :D

Could i buy a few too if you have any left?

16
Does it need to be planted on the ground or can it be in container?

17
Is this price include shipping?

What is Tim atemoya? Google search didn't help me much. How does it taste and would atemoya grow true too seeds? Sorry for asking so many questions

Ice cream beans (from what I heard)

strawberry tree (from experience, this grow like weeds and impossible to pick all the fruits off the tree)

Congrats winners!

Not a disease but I just want confirmation. Is this flower bud?

This is my grafted Maha Chanok. The graft took and look nice but it keep getting taller so I pruned the tips. Hoping it will force to make more side branches. It's been almost a month of nothing happening since. Finally I saw little bud pushing. I'm happy but then I notice this new growth look a bit off. There no way this little stick is making flower? Should I snip it of right the way? It's not strong enough to hold a fruit any way. I'm worry that the graft might snap if I let it hold a fruit.

I was under 32F last winter for over 5 hours and lost allot of annonas.
My seedling red custard is fine. Also my cherilata and sugarlata which
are reticulata hybrids are also fine. Your tree will be fine.
I ate one custard apple last year and the other 10 dropped during the
freeze. You may have problems getting fruit each year as they ripen in the Spring?
Good to know. I'll figure some thing out to prepare and protect it better next year :D

in Thailand, some time the shipping cost more than the plant itself cuz of the baskets they use to ship it lol.

Thank you for your input guys. I ended up making simi shade for it with stakes and cloths i can find around. I can't move it back to under the bananas as it is in a heavy pot now and other seedlings already replace its spot. I'll keep a close eye and hope for the best. It's my first and oldest annona tree so it's gonna be a rocky road through my trial and errors. Hope not being to rough and doing the right thing to fix it.
