Jan's best is an everbearing type that is slightly bigger fruit than other everbearing mulberries. I purchased it from her. It is definitely not similar to thai dwarf i got from fruitscapes.

My sabara gets defoliated every spring. I thought it was normal... It puts out great new growth and flowers.

Thank you !!
It does look like Forestiera segregata, florida privet.
Seeds are not tiny..Taste is somewhat sweet and bitter. I didn't eat it!!! Seems like college was planting native florida plants in the area.

Please help identifying those berries. They grow in Orlando fl, at  college campus. Are they edible? Honeyberry? I have never seen anything productive like that without extra help.

Thank you,

Where in Florida are you? I saw persimmon trees in Orlando area nurseries. Online, all sold out.

I always buy persimmon scions from fruitwood nursery. This year i added maru zengi and giant fuyu. They graft much more successful than figs or mulberries for me.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Trying Barbados cherry in 8B

We had at least 25f for a few hours, maybe even lower since all my 3 year old sugar apples died back to the ground. Barbados that was near a house wall had minimal damage, it blooms now. Barbados in the open area died back and growing from the ground level now.

They are not a threat but a sign that something rotting there..

White springtails...

I bought a fruit, ate it raw, liked it and planted seeds. I don't know how good they will be but i do find their leaves stinky.

I received my chocolate persimmon last week from gurney. It's pushing grown now.

Question, is Lisa is the hardiest Atemoya on your property? What variety was the third one? how did that do?

I had 2 Lisas, 1 geffner and a few different sugar apples. All in 7 gal pots, standing next to each other, all the same age and trunk size. Geffner died back to main trunk. Lisas show no damage and i see flowers are coming now. All sugar apples appear dead. The only hope is that they will come back from roots.

I am in north east Orlando, official lowest temp by weather report was 26f but i think we got lower. I lost all 3yo sugar apples (thai, na dai, kampong). All 3yo atemoyas are fine. Geffner died back a little and Lisa is totally like nothing happened.
Starfruit , 3 yo, died to bigger blanches but alive.
Mai1 jack in 7gal, could hardly handle 30f so it was inside.
Unknown jack that had no issues with 30f, died back to the last 10inches of trunk.
Kaffir lime has bad damage while other citrus are fine.
Red jabos, restinga have top damage, Sabara is like nothing happened.
Funny, i had dill and parsley not covered and nothing happened to them.

I have a mai1 jack that totally got all leaves gone after 32f. I have seedlings of unknown jack that planted outside and totally looks fine after 32f. This time i put a plastic container over them and  after 27f they show very little damage. Seems like jacks cold tolerance could be very different.

I got 27f for a few hours east Orlando.
Weather app was showing 30f but my thermometer disagreed. Jackfruit, unknown variety, that was undamaged after 32f, looks sad now but hopefully alive.

Rootstocks i received were too skinny so, not to waste scions, i had to graft on established Fuyu and hachiya trees.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Huge Loquat Leaves
« on: January 20, 2022, 04:22:54 PM »
I have a loquat seedling with a 16" leaf. it was growing in the middle of nowhere, in very dry sand before I took it. i mostly thought it would be a good rootstock but now looking at the leaf size i wonder if the fruit will be large too and good!
