Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Happy guacamole day
« on: September 29, 2020, 08:31:05 PM »
Can you say pass the Hass :) I like to put guacamole on my sandwiches. What spice do you like to add to yours? I like celery salt

Guacamole does the body good :)

Up until a few yrs ago I hated avocados until one day my wife convinced me to put a few thin slices on a turkey sandwich. The avocado blended so well with the turkey, mayo, tomatoes, and lettuce. I love avocados now, esp guacamole , really good on a hamburger.

You need to look into short cycle banana and plantain varieties. Varieties that you can harvest the fruit in less than 12 months. Some varieties can take up to 18 months. With those varieties you'll be lucky to get a bunch of bananas once every 3 years because every January it'll get knock-back from the cold before you get fruit.

I realize that now. Thanks

That was a really bad review (and their source for the bananas is known for not being the greatest supplier).  Best not to believe everything you see on youtube without knowing its credibility.

For best of the "colder tolerant" varieaties, go with Dwarf Namwa or Raja Puri.  You will still.probably need to protect in 8b depending on weather (not knowing your location).

Should have figured it sounded too good to be true. I'll try the Dwarf Namwa have seen lots positive reviews. Thanks for the information.

It looks like you're off to a wonderful start. Maybe put some mulch around it and have some ready. When we get our first cold snap you will have some to pile up against it to protect from the cold

Thanks. Thanks for the tip.

I bought a Goldfinger banana plant because of this Youtube taste review. The banana plant was tiny when I put it in the ground. I am a complete amateur when it comes to gardening.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My fruit tree trailer score
« on: September 28, 2020, 11:01:07 AM »
I often transport my fruit trees I buy in my Truck. Often the fruit trees I buy are young and fragile and some of the trees take a bit to recover from being transported. Wind and such take a toll. So I had been searching for a utility trailer to transport my zero turn, push mower and 3 gas scooters for transport to get serviced and repaired. I was looking mainly at single axle open utility trailers. Nothing real big. So after looking around on Facebook Market place and craigslist for a few mos I came across this homemade tandem utility trailer that was built on a boat trailer for 800.00. Since it has high sides I can now also transport my fruit trees and put a tarp over it if necessary to avoid injuring my trees. It's also the perfect size to transport my lawn equipment and gas scooters. Transporting them in my truck was a pain. It handled real well on the freeway when I went to pick it up. Tandem axle makes a difference in stability on the road.

The wind broke the top off leaving one branch intact. This happened 7 days ago and I took this picture today.

I started seeing stink bugs on my 5 foot avocado tree. The tree is currently in healthy condition. Should I be concerned.

I have a few Hass avocado trees in pots grown from seed. If I take a cutting from my fantastic avocado tree and graft it to the Hass what characteristics will I get.

Here is the video of 3 of my Haas Carmen’s. Don’t waste your time watching the 3rd tree as it got cloudy and the video got too dark.

I planted one Fantastic avocado tree in early March. I would like to plant one additional avocado tree for cross pollination. Prefer a cold hardy variety. My planting zone is 8b. Thank you
