I'm near By brandenton today. I emailed Wayne on Tuesday haven't heard back yet.
Does his place have any normal hours? Or is it by appointment appointment only?

If he has a number I can call PM please.
Thanks

Isn't LZ prone to jelly seed if left on to long?

Adam,
Thanks for the package everything arrived intact.

The cambium layer on the scions looked more brown then green. Maybe light brown.
I removed the bottom inch to get to fresher piece, they are both grafted onto a healthy potted gefner now. Hopefully it works out.
I forgot to take a pic though

it should work.   If you look back on this thread wayne had contacted someone who just wrote him.   He will respond in time but has a day job also.

Ok thanks,
I sent an email yesterday. So we'll see what happens

i guess i should've read it better.
I thought this was a poll of which fruit were better to use in culinary arts (making food) as opposed to just eating fresh.

Anyone know if the katway email still works? I'm hoping get one this weekend. Hopefully he's in town.

I don't think either of those two or for sale yet.
You might be able to get budwood from Honey Kiss.

If i would have know other scions were available i would have order some Dream too. Should have ask. Hopefully you still have some in March

I have some family in Lakeland and I'm over due for a visit. I plan on goin there maybe in March-April for a weekend.
So if you still need the trees then I can bring up a few. Don't know how many I can fit though.
If you have access to a dream atemoya tree, that would be great because it will save me an hour drive.

Went by my fathers house this weekend.
His Buxton (Black Spice) seedling is pushing leaves and flowers together. Second year flowering. Its around 5 years old.

Everything else seemed to be swollen or just pushed out a vegetative flush :(

Sayid
I would square the tree by tipping it to about 5'. Then you can determine which branch you want to multi-graft.

So cut back to tree to around 5ft (length and width?)

Is there any branches that are better to graft onto, thickness?

Can i use an offset cleft on the bigger diameter branches or should i try with a bark graft?

I'll only have two scions to graft right now but i plan on making this a Frankenstein tree, so any i wouldn't mind testing any other compatible hybrids.

Thanks

So i getting a few 47-18 scions (thanks Adam) to graft onto an in ground gefner.

This post seems the most relevant to the subject and since it already has a wealth of info on it i though i might as well post my question here.

My question is about the grafting method. Would a cleft be fine?

Here is a pick of the tree:

Its pushed new growth from late Dec but slowed down recently (I assume because of the cold).

I wanted to remove the lower most branch, But the second branch up (to the right of the green nursery tape) seems like a good candidate for a cleft.
What do you think?

Any suggestion would be helpful

Thanks

Its beginning to seem like the most likely scenario.

I guess I'll have to wait a few more months :(.
I will get it eventually ;D.

I might be in the minority here but i tried Pickering last season (only from one source) and wasn't too impressed.
It had a deep flavor that didn't sit well with me. I still enjoyed it but not as much as say Bailey's Marvel or OS.

I hope i'm wrong and it is something i did. When mango season come rolling back in I may have to bother some of you for a tasting.

I had two sweat tarts from Zill's mangos this year they were way to sour for me. It was like biting into a chunk of warheads/cry babies (really sour candy).
I also had a less than great experiences with Honey Kiss.

I assume i may have not let them ripening enough and the Honey Kiss might have been too early (late July).

Can't wait to taste FP and more Zill varieties.

Will try them again.

Can anyone (after some first hand experience) recommend a Mammea variety for south Florida? I have a protected area near in between my house and my neighbors house that seems good for it
Redlands and Kay Sweeney is what fairchild recommends now but i can't seem to find good info on the fruits especially seed to flesh ratio.
I saw Oscar has the Waimanalo dwarf, any growing it here?

Or should i wait a few years until a better variety is selected?

Was the fruit from a named variety?

Didn't want to make a new thread for this.

So I "found" a spot in my front yard. Southwest side.  I'm considering putting a tree there and I've basically giving up on lychee. The spot is 15 ft away from a mango and 15ft away from a Jackfruit. I plan on keeping both on check with pruning. Do you think this will be enough space for a biew kiew or chompoo.

Thanks for the info Rob.
Is that trait of increasing production typical for most vigorous growers?

There a good bit of info on coconut cream on the forum. Rob (bsbullie) did a nice write up breaking down the newer varieties in terms of production. From what I remember coconut cream isn't a great producer. Probably good enough for the backyard grower.
