Grapefruit graft on ujukitsu seedling
« on: December 16, 2019, 02:59:40 PM »
I will be harvesting some Marsh grapefruit budwood later this winter.  I happen to have a seedling that has sprung up under my ujukitsu tree.  Since I am nor overwhelmingly fond of ujukitsu, I thought to graft the grapefruit onto the seedling and then let it take over at that spot.  Are these compatible, grafting wise, and for good fruit quality?
Thanks!

Grapefruit is compatible with tons of stuff. I have never done the combination you speak of.....but I feel that it would work. The gfruit will be a vigorous grower and might overgrow your U. I graft gfruit to sweet orange and mandrin seedlings and have no problem. Some grapfruit on citrange is not a compatibility but not a failure by any means. Try it.

I seriously doubt that there is any information what so ever concerning grafting Marsh grapefruit  on to  ujukitsu  sweet lemon.  Since ujukitsus a lemon cultivar I would guess that it would produce an inferior tasting Marsh.

Ujukitsus is not a real lemon, it is a grapefruit x tangelo. Grapefruit should do well grafted to it. For cold hardiness I would use trifoliata or swingle.
