Theobroma obovatum
« on: September 19, 2020, 03:28:18 PM »
This theobroma interested me when I saw this video of the fruit: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B7DnNY06B_0

It is quite a cool-looking theobroma. Here are some more pictures: http://atrium.andesamazon.org/images_list.php?id=16595&start=0&filters=on

The only other interesting mention I found was this page about cupuacu, which states that cupuacu grafted onto obovatum can yield dwarf cupuacu trees. https://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/1492/cupuacu.html

Has anyone heard or seen this species of theobroma? More importantly, is anyone growing it or knows a source for seeds/plants?

I havenít found much more info about Obovatum so far. In the Amazon River Fruits book there is a page on Obovatum-describes it as a wild fruit collected and eaten in the rainforest, not sold at markets. Should grow in wetter areas, as the book focuses on the lower, wetter Amazon south of Brasil.
