What is the undisputed, hands down, BEST mango variety?

Nectarine, apricot, pluot, and sweet cherries deserve a place in the world champion fruit taste test. I know with certainly they're light years better than citrus. Mango not sure. As with any fruit it's all about growing condition and peak ripness. Getting all the best together at once will never happen.

Ridiculous thread because taste is subjective BUT If we are talking mango taste,

Sugarloaf/E4 is the king of the king of fruits.

It’s a perfect pina colada, dripping, juicy candy bar in a mango.

I believe that 95 percent of TFF members would choose it over any mango and any fruit  if served to them perfectly ripened.

95% seldom chose anything unless there's only one choice. Florida is unlikely to grow the best of anything. Too much rain and too many diseases.

Very few people have tasted the best stone fruit. Why, they're hard to grow to perfection. It requires a warm dry climate and proper watering with chilling in winter. FL can't even try.

It took me 50 years growing experience and a large greenhouse in a very sunny climate to get everything right.

Now I'm planting mango to compare to the stone fruit. But who knows how good of a mango I can grow. CA does grow sweeter mango than FL due to dry summers. In a greenhouse I can fully control water and have some control of temperature.

After giving it more thought my left and right brain agree that Keitt is the Undisputed best mango. After all the other mangoes are fading from our memory. Keitt is the last Mango hanging. So which is best the first mango of the season or the last. Last season I had a mango called little Keitt. I believe it came out of Pine Island Nursery many years ago. I hold that very late mango in highest regards

I feel the opposite. Keitt and Kent, both late season, are heart breakers.

I purchase them bc it makes we want to believe mango season isn't over. But after you get a few slices into one, you realize they taste like they're from publix, and indeed mango season is over.

There are hybrids coming out that are fantastic. I'm really excited to get to eat them again when they come back to HEB

California Mango's are sweeter than Florida Mango's? Tell me that aint Texan humor because I don't get it here either.
What California Mango's ? both of them. There is no California Mango industry and the homegrown fruit is cherished by the few that have a tree. So a California mango is basically a myth and how can you even compare that to decades of Zill's works and all the other knowledge growers and breeders in FL.
Same argument works backwards for zaiger stone fruit and CA.

Before greening, we had the best citrus. At the moment we still have the best lychee.

How often have you seen a fruit tasting or any kind of poll where 95% of people agree on anything? Not very often. You'd be surprised what some people value in fruit. It's often not what you expect.

If a poll only has one choice then 95% might agree. Seems pretty simple to me.

Look at the thread on favorite fruits. Even Mango doesn't make the top 5 on many if not most people's list.
