Organic Fertilizers
« on: June 12, 2024, 02:11:35 AM »
I'm investigating how to use organic fertilizers like this one: DTE 6-3-3 Citrus Fertilizer in my garden. I am concerned about the recommended application rates. DTE recommends 1/3 lbs for every 1" of tree trunk. However, the University of Arizona Citrus Fertilization Schedule recommends 4x that rate for a 6-3-3 fertilizer and medium sized tree.

I live in the Desert Southwest and our soil is severely nitrogen depleted. Soil tests routinely indicate Nitrogen levels at 1.6 ppm. The optimal amount of soil Nitrogen is 21 - 47 ppm.

My question is this:

Should I apply more of the organic product to match the UofA recommended application rates?

Or

Does UofA's recommendations not apply since this is organic fertilizer? Should I just follow the application rates recommended by the manufacturer?

I just spread chicken poop around the trees and it seems to do it.  I do not measure amounts.  They seem to be growing much healthier than when I used chemical fertilizer.
