Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lujan Jaboticaba - 7b in Ground Test
« Last post by Rauf on Today at 11:01:22 AM »
does anyone know the cold hardiness of red hybrid jabo? I have several 2-years seedlings, they do fine in unheated greenhouse. We have no frost some years, sometimes 2-3 nights with 28-30°F and sometimes several days with 25-26°F in February, like this year. But also we have constantly cold winter, average days with 45°F and nights with 36°F in January-February. Is it possible to put them outside later, when they become bigger ( now they are less than 1 feet tall ) ?

Up potted my seedling plant. Currently flushing new growth

Nick, your seedling looks very healthy, will you be putting it into the ground eventually?

Thanks Ben, yes I’m definitely super stoked!

Jeramy, I’d agree it’s probably time to put that male on there. If you graft it soon, hopefully it will produce pollen for you next year.

Unfortunately going to stay container  bound, gets too cold out here

Thanks for the comments, Julian and Mike.

My only other concern once planted out is that my yard is essentially Florida sand and
drains very well.  Even after three or four days of heavy rains I've never seen more
than 4 inches of water in my yard. And once the rain ends all that standing water
is gone, soaking right into the ground within ten minutes.

So will this water situation be a problem for a camubcá or will it require some regular
irrigation in the absence of regular rainstorms?  I have read that cambucá require a
lot of water.

I got by without spraying for years, but didn't brag about it online or claim to know anything. I just got lucky, lol. Really appreciate the video and info, along with the shared wisdom and knowledge of Alex and Har. Will be getting friendly with copper next flowering season. Even though we have a few varieties that did okay despite no treatment, this year's crop is a fraction of what it could've been. Mmmmmm copper, can't wait.

A discussion of resistant varieties needs to continue and intensify. Here, Sweet Tart and Mmm4 are the champs VS powdery mildew, with Glenn, Ceci Love, and OS coming in behind. Hard to actually say with OS, as it only flowered lightly. Holding some fruits, will guard them faithfully.

Edward is holding a few fruit as well, but lost most of the blooms to pm.

How long will it takes to fruit from seed?

Thanks,

Hey! Dealing with ants under your trees can be a real pain, especially when they start making their way up to your fruit trees. I had a similar situation with my garden, and I found that sprinkling cinnamon around the base of the trees helped deter them naturally. It's like magic – ants just can't stand the smell!

Those facebook groups are the worst.
Yes there are clowns that have a small collection in their backyard and question everything the commercial people have observed for decades. It's okay to bring things up for discussion but when you make claims on very antidotical small sample evidence. It becomes  a pappy show. Gringo Patois
