Bmc,

thanks for sharing pics!

they look much larger than I thought, and greener to.

I remember them ripening almost a golden green color.

the most beautiful jabuticabeira

this one is a larger specimen....its been happy, but now is really thriving...nice deep red new growth!! I love it.

this one is recovering nicely from horrible city water...now loving the well water

this one is recovering too..its from the same batch of seeds (45 planted about 2yr ago)...this one makes the largest leaves of them all!!  They're definitely variable.

If I remember correctly, PIN had red and white jabos for sale about a month ago. Pretty sure that is what I bought from them at that time... Only the red had a label, though, if I remember correctly.

Were they grafted? I'm gonna call some reputable dealers, and find out who has them grafted, and what varieties. To me, grafted is definitely the way to go.

PIN's jabos were red and yellow...and no, they are/were not grafted.

That is correct. You jogged my memory. Thanks.

That leaves the following potential nurseries that have grafted jaboticabas (in no particular order): Excalibur, Lara-Farms, Benders-Grove ...

all this talk of grafting jaboticabas...I thought we abandon that idea years ago, when Chris Whitman declared his attempts of propagating them to be no more precocious than seedlings??

I'm curious what types are being offered grafted?  why are they grafted? for increased precocity?  if so I bet you will be sorely mistaken.

let me know what you find out!

I bought two White Jaboticaba at the Brevard Rare Fruit group member sale today.  So...Now I'm in the White Jaboticaba card-carrying-membership club....It is a little more exclusive than the Jaboticaba Anonymous club.   So, I probably shouldn't even talk to you guys unless you know the secret handshake.    :P

I only have partial shade to plant them in, but I do have some luck with jaboticaba.  So, hopefully in a few years I can describe what the fruit taste like !

Post some pics!!!

You got two??

They like to be in some shade!! about 30-60% shade!

They don't like wind!  Or high pH!

Best of luck!!! You got some rare beautiful plants!!  :)

I picked up a White also, along with a Grimal and a Sabara X. I was there early (helped unload the trucks and set up), saw a couple of Reds and Yellows, and some of the smaller one in others' wagons.

Another oops.  NOt column.   They are variety Crown 1 and Crown 3.

Sabara X, like mentioned above was there in a 1 gallon.

The Yellows looked pretty good and I may pick one up tomorrow if they are still there.   The reds looked nice and flushed out as well.

There were a total of 15 REDs available, but when I was there maybe about 5 or 6 left.  Nobody else was really looking at Jaboticaba when I was there and it was late. So, if you are there before the sale starts (8am) you may rush over and grab one.  When you walk in the entrance run to the right and near the back corner.     They looked nice and healthy though.   listed at $35 for a 3Gal.

very cool Mike!  Nice find.

I have heard of many varieties of M. aureana...I don't remember them all.  It seems like each species has 10 different varieties!

Very nice Mike.  I would be interested to know how you'll be repotting them - do they require extra care or is it just like any other seedlings?
