Temperate Fruit Discussion / Boquila trifoliolata - cultivation
« on: November 16, 2018, 01:33:38 PM »
Hi,

if finding any information about cultivation of Boquila trifoliolata plants I always read that Boquila needs marshy soil. My impression/experience is very different. Constantly high humidity but very permeable, coarse soil with very good air permeability. Iīm very interested in your experiences.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Boquila trifoliolata - soil
« on: November 14, 2018, 07:37:14 AM »
Hi,

I have controversial information about soil properties for my Boquila trifoliolata plant. I found information that Boquila needs very moist, almost wet soil but I found also that well drained very loose substrate should be used. Does anybody have experience with cultivation of Boquila and can give me a recommentation concerning soil ?

Thanks for your answers. Air layering would be a better way for me. Living in a climate that means cultivating Bertholletia indoor means also to propagate tree(s) as XXL-bonsais +/- 3 m).

Thanks KarenRei for all your reseach !

According to my information it was not sure that E. hermaphroditum occurs in Icelandīs flora. Besides Empetrum hermaphroditum berries being a little bit larger, do you get any information about fruit quality differences between E. n. var. nigrum and E. n. hermaphroditum ?

To find a E. hermaphroditum plant in nature would be a bigger challenge. I assume best way to find are nurseries.

There seems to be only one nursery in Europe which sells R. chingi. But they donīt dispatch to Iceland I know by now.

Empetrum hermaphroditum is self fertile in contrast to Empetrum nigrum. Iīm not sure if E. hermaphroditum grows in Iceland. But perhaps itīs available in nurseries/a nursery.
If possible it would be very kind if you could take pictures of Rubus plants you discovered/you know about. Iīm curious to identify species.

Are you interested in to buy a R. chingi plant directly by nursery if possible ?  (I may ask if they send to Iceland)

Arctic berries sounds interesting also  :). I donīt know if Empetrum hermaphroditum grows in your country.
My rubus saxatilis plants are on the way to winter rest also now. Does Rubus nessensis grows in Iceland ? I only can find that it grows in Norway.

I have about 50 Rubus species (and hybrids) from many regions of the world (for example Rubus australis, a self fertile Rubus chamaemorus, Rubus ellipticus, Rubus niveus ...) and Iīm interested in exchange of experiences and plant materials. Please PM which species you are interested in and which you may offer.

Hi,

none of Prunus napaulensis seeds (I have bought last Autumn from Roy-Ind) shared with two friend have germinated nor have I read that any other buyer I know was successful with propagation. Was anyone here successfull with this seeds ? Iīm interested to get (trade or buy) two plants.

Unfortunately, I did not get a reply from Roy-Ind.

Too moist substrate is a classical problem for newbies, even for non-commercial senders.

My experiences with fruitnursery are good (but you have to talk with him to find out that he is a kind and cooperative person).

@ Chandramohan
Did you contact fruitnursery ?

@ Mike T

Do you know a source for Buchanania obovata or Marsedmia australis seeds ?

@ posci35

Santalum acuminatum seeds need rather low temperatures for germinating (about 15-17 Celcius)
I have propagated a (still small) plant.
