Stan, what about the fruits? I found a YouTube video with a guy eating some fruits he received from you. Is he a believer..? Or are they really that good quality?

This is a 25 year old seedling. It never had flowers.
Is it a lemon (seedling) ?

It is http://www.homecitrusgrowers.co.uk .

Can anyone share seeds of Passiflora incarnata and or lutea? I am the most interested in plants from the northern part of its distribution.
Sow hundreds so far but non survived. They are more tricky than caerulea to me.
I want to try again...

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Long term cold hardy citrus breeding project

populations size is what me makes think about the most. I am just in the beginning of everything and did only my first small scale hybridisations. That is fine for the start but I know that I need (and want) more seedlings to do selection.

I see 2 main issues in practical work. In the south it would be easier to produce large amount of seedlings but you have to wait for the chance of frost tests. That means you keep more seedlings as you need. (fortunately not my position  ::) )
In the north (like me) it is much more difficult to produce enough seedlings for frost tests. Due to limited space in greenhouse etc. Most seedlings grow very slowly in their 1st season here in our climate. So it is probably better to do frost tests in the 2nd season but that is a matter of space. Small seedlings will be killed for sure whether potentially hardy or not. Too small is too small :(
So it is even much more unlikely to find a hardy one among the small number of seedlings. To talk about edibility is a whole other thing...

I was thinking about a garden in the south, dreaming of Ventimiglia, Italy were I once lived for a short time, but that is far from reality for me. Theoretically it would make it possible for me to produce a lot of seedlings  without to worry about the winter and do large scale frost tests here in the north.
I am still thinking about this possibilty but it only will come in reach in far far future. Now I barely manage to handle my 2nd home and work 160km from here.

Still only spinning around but I keep thinking about that. Especially about how to handle it now...not in future.

I have many seedlings I was given kindly from others and also different crosses of my own but less in number. Mostly only 1 to 6 each. My breeding stock are small potted plants with only a few fruits many didn`t flower until now.
The challenge I face is how to keep them? Most of the hybrids are not suitable for a winter here, not now at least. One or two generations further it might be possible that at least some will survive. e.g. Microcitrus hybrids are no way hardy enough. I use them for the precocious flowering trait. that needs a large number of seedlings for selection and some generations backcrossing with hardier hybrids. Even if a precocious seedling is flowering after 2 or 3 years this means 2 or 3 winter with many seedlings in my small greenhouse beside my breeding stock and other  non Citrus projects. Breeding is way easier with annuals, like tomatoes :)
This summer I started to plant out open pollinated F2 hybrids of Citrumelo and others. This is not a hard decision for me. Either they survive or they don't..
I am sure there are some hardier among them. A small Swingle F1 survived last winter, so there will also be some F2.

My question was for @Sylvain (just forgot to link it). I read other impressions before but I wonder what Sylvains taste like.

What is its taste like? There is no Poncirus in its parentage, right?

This is my 245 from Eisenhut in ground at Lake Constance. No flowers yet.

What kind of winter protection do you use? How cold is it in winter in your region?

it is interesting that all different FDs gave standard PT seedlings. Do you think the seedlings are F1 or the mother plant?

I have sown many FDs but none of the seedling became a true FD. Most of them look like standard Poncirus, some have slightly curved thorns but nothing more. I have no idea if this is always the case.

That is bad news. I read they made grafts after the first winter, but never read anything about it again.
At least it is not the hardy mandarin one was hoping for.
