Propagation by cuttings: Bertholletia excelsa
« on: October 19, 2018, 12:43:49 PM »
Hi,

did someone successfully propagate Bertholletia excelsa by cuttings ? If possible I would like to produce one or two additional plants (I have 3 plants).

I have not tried it. But would guess it's not going to work, unless you use rooting hormone and a misting house. Let us know if you are succesful. Good luck.

I haven’t tried it either but would figure that a well made airlayer has a better chance than a cutting.

Yes that is almost always the case. But since he is posting from Germany i figured he does not have a large plant from which to make an air layer?

Thanks for your answers. Air layering would be a better way for me. Living in a climate that means cultivating Bertholletia indoor means also to propagate tree(s) as XXL-bonsais +/- 3 m).

Brazil-Nut seedlings are juvenile for decades, and get about 100-feet tall and about that wide before fruiting..  If someone can learn to propagate from mature trees by cuttings--- that would be a big deal.  From a juvenile plant, not so much.
