Pineapple Starter Material For Sale
« on: August 31, 2024, 12:00:15 PM »

Pineapple sale:

Hello Everyone - I'm listing some pineapple from my collection for sale.
Pineapple material will be $20 - the buyer pays shipping.
PLEASE PERSONAL MESSAGE YOUR ORDERS; do not put them on the board.
I will begin to fill orders that came in at 12:00 noon EST / 9:00 PST today and fill orders based on queue. Orders that came in before 12 noon EST 8/31 are ineligible, as I've posted multiple times.
The first buyer in the queue starting at 12 gets their order filled w/ what's available, then second, and so on.
I have limited numbers:  See the numbers below, so if you don't get what you requested, I apologize, but I'm not a large commercial grower :).
To be detailed: Material may consist of slips/suckers/pups/ratoons/rooted crowns/1 year plants.  All robust, healthy, vigorous starters 3" and up to monster (12"+) As a rule: If the material looks droopy ... it get's put back into the ground.
I will confirm orders that can be filled (even if only partially) and ask for your address so I can send a total w/ postage.  If you do not get a confirmation, it means I ran out and I apologize. I will post the moment I run out of material and at that point the sale is closed.
As many members do, always feel free to connect - ask questions, check to see if I have what you might want as we go forward.

MY MISSION:  TO GET OBSCURE, RARE, INTERESTING PINEAPPLE OUT TO OTHER GROWERS SO THAT COLLECTIONS CAN TAKE SHAPE, AND THE PINEAPPLE CULTIVAR STAYS FREE FROM BECOMING EXTINCT

The number at end of description is the number of examples I have to sell.

Las Marias (people tell me it has a melon taste)  BIG plant w/ big fruit.  Dark gold to orange fruit. Beautiful fruit that people are starting to talk about. 4. Cabezona/N67 cross.
Dellerman Gold - coconut/vanilla flavors. A local, East Coast FL hybrid that has (honestly) gained world notoriety: growers in Japan have heard of it. 12
Borneo Red  Decorative Rare Plant w/ RED fruit that while isn't super sweet - is jaw dropping 2
Brazilian Red - decorative plant w/ edible fruit and a stunning flower if grown in partial sun 10
Big Top (a 75 y/o heritage Florida smooth cayenne variety).  Largest fruit in the collection this year.  Sweet. Hardy. 3
Smooth Cayenne from the USDA collection - EXCELLENT fruit - robust plant. This one I have many of because we share w/ family and friends.  Has a little tang to balance the sweet. 20
Queen Natal - small, but mighty.  Edible core Knobby fruit.  One of my favorite to grow. 17
Giant Paun - hard one to find. 2
Montoso Yellow (RARE) Ornamental Pineapple w/ colorful crown that produces a very aromatic and delicious fruit: yellow skin/white-ish flesh.  If I run out - you can also contact Bryan Brunner at Montoso Gardens, Puerto Rico (google him) 4
Kauai White - from the Huber farm on Kauai 4
Las Marias (people tell me it has a melon taste)  BIG plant w/ big fruit.  Dark gold to orange fruit. Beautiful fruit that people are starting to talk about. 4
Nanas Pada - A variety from a farmer in the Sarawak region of Borneo.  Also known as Sawit.  Has a crispy, sweet flesh.  Most fruits have edible cores.  Knobby fruit.  Robust grower. 11
Cheesepine - odd name, great historical fruit from Guatemala. The name dates back to the 1940's.  Squat, knobby fruit.  A crispy fleshed fruit that can vary in flavor from vanilla to citrus.  Medium sized fruit and plant.  6
Honeyglow - A barrel shaped fruit with good sweetness - one of del monte's 'glow'  fruit.  Very tolerant of tough conditions - if I were starting out growing and wanted a consistent producer - I'd pick this one.  2
Abacaxi USDA Hilo example 1
Hawaiian MD2 - picked up this plant from a KONA Ali'i farmer's market - local grower.  VERY good fruit.  Big orange barrel fruit with great sweetness.  1
FL Special - A fruit bred to deal with chillier conditions.  Very small spines.  Good flavor.  Always fun to grow.  1
Rascanna - A wild pineapple that bears an aromatic, medium-sweet fruit.  Not ananas erectifolius (ornamental) or ananas bracteatus (large aggressive spines). An interesting cultivar to have in your collection.  RARE.  6

I sent a message but like others don't know if it went through or not.

The forum's DM board can be confusing as I didn't get a 'message sent' confirmation and didn't see anything in sent either.

Brett
Are those of us who sent pms and have screenshots to verify the time they were sent out of luck and cant  buy anything? Doesn’t seem particularly fair but it’s your sale not mine I guess. I’m extremely disapointed as I held up my day to send a pm right at 12 and I highly doubt 30+ people sent pms in before 12:00:03 as I did which would warrant getting no pm or material. But maybe I’m wrong. I’d just greatly appreciate an update.

I’d highly suggest for your sales going forward be via forum posts, through a sales platform, or a google form submission at the least. This forum is known to sometimes not send direct messages correctly.

Between your posts at least 5 people have not been told if their pm went through or if you have not got to them yet. When you get a chance we’d greatly appreciate an update so we can move on if we will not be able to buy anything. I know I personally don’t like having to keep checking for messages.  ;D

Thanks! :)

I'm upset with the site's system and tendency to lose messages, this has happened before. Next time I'll try to send by email if possible.

I believe the same happened to me. I pm’d at 12:01 and didn’t get a confirmation or response. So mine must’ve been eaten. Thanks for posting these cool pineapple plants for sale though Brett! I’ll try again next time you have some available.

I don’t think the site actually loses any messages. I haven’t seen that happen.
