Crunchy Jackfruits 2023
« on: February 09, 2023, 10:41:03 PM »
I am on the hunt for a good crunchy low-latex jackfruit and Iím struggling with what (and where) to buy. Most of the jackfruit threads on here seem at least a few years old so what are the best cultivars in 2023?  Locally, I can get an orange crush or J31 but Iím willing to take a trip down to the Palm Beach area as well if there are superior varieties. From my research, the Bangkok lemon, lemon gold, and honey gold sound like they fit the bill but are there others that I should look for?

I've been eyeing banana crunch on the lara farms website. Cannot find very much info on it.  Anyone know anything about that variety?

When I looked into this last year I ended up going with Bangkok Lemon, Orange Crush, and Red Morning based on reviews I could find, picking "best" of each color

Yeah I got seeds from sellers here.  I had tons of excess seedlings before winter, ended up tossing them or I'd offer you some.

they are easy to grow from seed.

I always see J31 listed as great, you might as well just get the J31 and Orange Crush locally unless you are itching to travel

I already have a baby Mai 1 so Iím probably covered for yellow flesh.  I might as well wait for the local nursery to get their spring shipment which should include orange crush.

The J31 seedling I got from echo turn out to be great, its easy peel with banana n bubblegum flavor. The flesh is on the softer side but not overly  soft.

That's cool the banana flavor is more rare!

Hmm, I had skipped over J31 after hearing that it could have a decent amount of latex. It must not be that bad considering how prevalent it is in nurseries. Iíve read that it may have more cold tolerance than other varieties which would be a positive for me in the north end of 10a.
