If there are no updates or photos of the "RED" then what should be the conclusion "all who were arguing about red color are color blind"? :-)

It is truly orange-red, I also just heard it from the horses mouth without even asking. King Richard, the owner of Excalibur. But who really cares, its close enough to red and if their described as red, which they are, and the taste is great, then the talk should finally end. At least I hope!

Some are red,  some are coral red and some a diluted coral red.  Understand, nobody ever said "blood red".  There are many different shades and tonea of red.

This jackfruit is a very deep coral red.  In many cases with fruit pictures, the picture does not tell the story or really do it justice.

Yes, I see it as coral red!  Ok, I will second the coral red. Rob you crack me up, you just don't give up.

Looks way more red than orange. I'd refer to that as a red jackfruit... the whole thing about it needing to be "ruby" red or some dark red is silly.

I was told Richard (Excalibur) thought their 'Cristela' was a red jackfruit as well but it came out a yellow color this year and they liked the taste better. Rob do you know about the 'Cristela' changing to yellow thing? I don't care what color it is if it tastes good and produces.

Surprised this is still being debated, can we just agree it's the most reddish jackfruit known?!?! 😂

I like the orange red color the best anyway, and do not think of it as more red than orange, hell no.  A ruby red would not impress me nor do I find it appetizing. Just put up another post and get a vote on what color everyone thinks it is. Have multiple choice and give 4 selections.

This is the best information that I’ve been able to gather from very reliable sources:

‘Xain’s Red’ jackfruit variety is the reddest (deep red) colored jackfruit fruit tree
commercially available in South Florida, USA.
The taste is an intensely great tasting bubble gum taste.
The fruit prefers to grow in the canopy of the tree.
The fruit size is small like the size of a basketball.
The fruit production is inferior to the ‘Excalibur Red’ jackfruit variety.

‘Excalibur Red’ has a flesh color that is less red than ‘Xain’s Red’.
I’m unaware of the current commercial availability.
The taste is a very good juicy fruit bubble-gum taste.
The taste may vary from season to season.
The fruit prefers to grow at the base of the tree trunk.
The fruit size is medium-large.
The fruit production is superior to ‘Xain’s Red’.

I currently have a 10 foot tall ‘Excalibur Red’ and I’m waiting
for it to produce fruit.

I’m currently on a mission to find a new jackfruit variety that is
as red as ‘Xain’s Red’.
And, that it’s also excellent tasting and
very productive, consistently, yearly.

I just bought and planted a 1 gallon grafted ‘Xain-Red’ jackfruit from Lara Farms.

After my last, previous post on this thread, during each passing day, my wanting to have this variety has increased daily.

The rationale behind my decision:
I already have ‘Excalibur-Red’, which I’ve been told will produce fruit at the base of the trunk.
Now, I’ll have ‘Xain-Red, which I’ve been told will produce fruit at the canopy.
The flesh color is deep red; I’ve been told. Which, I really want; Is any other variety redder?
The flavor is great; I’ve been told. Which, I also really want.
Every single seed from each fruit may be super valuable in South Florida for planting and obtaining new superior deep red-flesh varieties.
The ‘Xain-Red’ jackfruit may be the beginning of a positive explosion in
The South Florida Jackfruit Industry.

Now, I have to wait for the tree to grow and produce fruit.

Good Question:

Reliable sources have told me that
The ‘Xain-Red’ variety of jackfruit is more on the crunchy side.

Thanks for the great question!

Leooel you sound pretty enthusiastic about these red jackfruits and I am as well.  But about the taste I’m not too sure about the descriptions.  I’m aware the Wrigley’s juicy fruit flavor was inspired by Jakfruit but it’s not bubble gum.  When I was very young I chewed bubblegum but my recollection is that it had an artificial confection taste.  Of all the possibilities that a flavor wheel might provide is bubblegum the best to describe a premium Jakfruit?

I agree with your opinion of a bubble gum taste.
But, if that’s the only option available and the color is deep-red,
I’ll take it.
This is why I just had to get the ‘Xain-Red’ jackfruit variety.

I also have a plan that I hope will come to fruition once I start getting jackfruit seeds:
(1) Plant every single seed
(2) Location to plant the seeds is available right now (no problem).
(3) (this is the hard part) I need a silent-drone to plant/drop the seeds(when it’s raining?).

Crunchy

This is what I’ve been told by the very same person it was named after (Xain).

All jacks have juicy fruit bubblegum element. Reds are a little more likely to be crisp, low latex and well flavoured than yellows. The finest of all however are just a few reds and a few yellows. There are bad reds and reds are really orange like papaya. I have had the benefit f seeing how many of my amber seedlings have turned out. Some were clearly crossed to J33. Most seedling were paler orange than their mother and equally as good. A proportion were duds and a few turned out to be exceptional, even better than their mother. On the whole most seedlings say over 50% were just like their mum.
I am a fan of the nanka mini these days, good taste small tree and quick to bear.

Just a side note on Xain Red, having talked to Xain, he told me that Xain Red and Wilson Red were from selected trees that were selected by Richard Wilson for Xain to propagate.

Jackfruit is the future i think. Mango only produces if theres no rain in the winter now. The only problem with jackfruit that i see is that its annoying to open/clean (most varieties) and its also dangerous to harvest themif they are high up in the canopy. I personally planted a red morning jackfruit from Excalibur but it never grew big, just stayed stunted thr size of a 1 gal nursery tree

There are only a few reds and these new names are not helping with knowing what the fruit are like. NS1 is probably one of the oldest and best known and perhaps the progenitor of many. It is ok but wouldn't keep you awake at night marvelling over its quality.
