J33 from Mike T and easy peel Jackfruit
« on: June 26, 2024, 07:20:28 PM »
I received from Mike T J33  as I remember ,when planted as a small seedling I add a second rootstock of a random seedling that I had in my stock so the seedling could grow more vigorously ,with two root sistem working for one plant, we'll early this year flowered but the double rootstock besides being only less than a feet high and no having any leaves or branches just being attached to the J33 Main trunk also send a single flower that to my surprise 😲 set a small fruit who was laying on the ground due to the low height of this double rootstock ,the J33 being only at maybe 6 feet high only set one fruit also ,both fruits were growing at about same pace ,one day I noticed the one in the ground from the double rootstock had a couple of black spots so I taught it was ready ,I bend and tried to pick it up with my hand from the ground but to my surprise I could only get the top part of the skin ,who give to a very small force applied by my fingers just to reveal a beautiful red flesh bulbs with yellow rags ,the bulbs were very thick and there was no latex at all ,the flavor was excellent ! this fruit I'm talking about was the size of a small cantaloupe or maybe like a large grapefruit , needles to say I was very excited with this fruit ,now I had a problem ,who to make this rootstock to grow and send branches? Will be available to flower again ? so I decided to wait for the J33 Fruit who was developing on the tree ,a few weeks later it was soft at a small size also maybe like a grapefruit size ,so I taught it was a Runt because of the small size ,I cut it and take it to my kitchen to open it ,for this one I needed the knife it wasn't soft skin like the double rootstock one ,when I opened I noticed the amount of flesh and thickness was absolutely insane never seed a jackfruit with so much proportion of flesh vs seed vs rag ratio , just a pleasure to watch it ,when trying the consistency was crunchy with excellent balance between sweet and Tart , my wife who tried without knowing anything about the background told me this was very good ,and she liked a lot ,for me probably is the best Jack I have ever tried , so I decided I have to have this two varieties and the only solution was to cut both below the grafting union and wait for them to push new growth again then I'm approach grafting the red easy peel to another seedling in nursery bag to take to a personal spot in a prime area and let the J33 Regrowth again in his own roots , sadly have to start again but at the same time very exited to be able to grow this two special varieties ,thanks to my friend Mike T for sharing that excellent Jackfruit and just waiting for the days to tried again ,also very exited for the red easy peel one who could change the approach of eating jackfruit ,just taking the skin apart with the fingers like if was a Marang , I really don't remember where this seeds came from ,when talking about this in a Facebook group a Lady friend of mine said she sent me red flesh jack seeds she received from an Indian friend ,so probably they are those but not 100% sure ,so no just wait one or two more years just to confirm new fruits on a larger size tree will perform same patterns

That is a pretty wild situation. Grafted, fruited, now separated lol. Would love to see some pics as well!

Why not just plant the red seeds , maybe a few and than select best one. At this point you only know one fruit was good and it may have other issue that are not as good as the seedlings then graft new ones. Thing can go bad when you cot rootstock off tree then you lose more and end up with nothing.

Heya Raul its great to know survivors from the past are doing their thing. My Mexican Garcinia's are doing their thing also. J33's are good alright and I recall lining up ambers and J33 fruit with people and making them tell me which one is better. If they said j33 I would verbal them and tell them to wake up to themselves. Is it possible that the other one is amber?
A friend, Dan grew a j33 from seeds of my tree and the fruit turned out pale orange but great in taste. It obviously was a cross with the amber.
