Mouth is watering thousands of miles away : ) Perhaps more unique delicious fruits on the horizon! However I imagine that there is not universal compatibility between the universe of Eugenia. Phylogenetic trees are very revealing as to the proximity of species evolutionary relatedness, which would influence their likelihood to cross. Unfortunately many scientific papers are behind paywalls, hereʻs a free example which may be interesting though does not include the species E. selloi & E. luschnathiana, at does have E. involucrata, could just be that they didnʻt analyze the first two and they would be somwhat close relatives.

Two interesting fruits this morning... One 6-of-6 and one 5-of-6:
Notice the red coloration of the skin and the cracks on the 6-of-6.
6-of-6:

By comparison... Here's a couple of 6-of-6s from the other day... no cracks or coloration:

And here's a 5-of-6 from this morning:

I may have missed this in one of your other posts, but how would you describe the flavor of these hybrids?
Edit: oops, Nevermind, I found your taste description on page 1

It's a mixture of the tangy tropical fruit flavor of the Pitangatuba and the dried apricot flavor of the Pitomba. And its fruit is much bigger than both parents.
I grafted 6 of them the other day onto Pitomba seedlings. We'll see if they take.
Next I'm going to graft them onto Pitangatuba seedlings.
Hopefully I'll have some to share.

I got a bit confused thinking 6 of 6 was ribbed! Wow that cracking is crazy!

Is there much of a taste difference between the red cracked ones and the orange ones?
BTW great pics Kevin

More of a texture difference than flavor. Not unpleasant... just different.
I don't know if it's a reaction to high temps... we've been in the high 90s for daytime temps for the past few weeks. Water stress maybe? Growing in large containers I have to water them daily... they drink a tremendous amount of water.

5 of 6 is now called "Lumin".
The original Mother plant seed was from a Pitomba... the Dad was Pitangatuba.

have you also tried the reverse of that cross ie Pitangatuba= mother & pitomba= father ?
