I'll be grafting these scions now as well. Since I have the 5-7yr old seedling tree of Spira, I will just graft maybe 3-4 branches. I will use cleft graft on the scions with are 1/8"-1/4", and anything skinnier I like to use the side veneer graft just like I do on all my citrus trees. I think they should graft pretty well, key is to use fresh scions so when I ship everyone's order out by Tuesday you should graft it as soon as you get it..

I’m trying to root the very small twigs. Dipped them with rooting hormones. Put them into promix, covered with sandwich bags and put hem in the shade. I’ll update if any of them root.

Ok, thanks. That would be good to hear how it turns out for you. This tree is about 7-8ft tall but it has skinny branches everywhere with fruits on them. He is only cutting branches that get in his way when he walks by the tree. He likes all the fruits from it.

I wanted to pop in here and thank Kaz for the generous assortment of cuttings that he sent. I have always had good experiences with what he has sent me and look forward to some of those spira taking here in New Orleans!

All the best,

Zach

Good job... For me grafting Suriname Cherries can be challenging due to their very hard wood.

Same here, I don't think any of my grafts made it. Will need to get more scions from Mike.

Good job CRiSP, all my grafts of Spira failed. What type of graft did you use? It seems like whatever you are doing is working well.

I got some Suriname Cherry scions from Kaz and Kevin. I grafted them to 4 trees. The 3 that survived were keep in the shade. The one that didn’t take was in partial shade. To answer chrisfix, all my grafts were cleft.

That's a good percentage of take on your grafts, nice job. Maybe this time I will put a shade over the tree when I graft it.

I have had reasonable takes with cleft, about 75%, but 100% with whip and tongue which I switched over to recently. Using green plant tie to cinch the union shut is crucial imo.

I was 100% on the couple Spiras I did. Thanks Kaz.
