The thought of putting up with HOA's makes me giddy.  Between that and property taxes (and FL HO Insurance cost to boot) on a paid off property, it's equivalent to a lifetime mortgage payment in your budget just to allow a group of unhappy people with legal power (funded by you) to dictate how you live on your property.  Makes me want to find one of those picture-perfect corporate-built neighborhoods and start living that dream today!

Kind of no choice in my city.

Only place available with no HOA is typically in the bad part of town.

But my HOA allows fruit trees every where here so I have no complaints.

Walking around neighborhoods here in Miami, I've noticed a lot of older/big trees without much fruit (if any). These had plenty of fruit last year. I'm wondering if it's something with the variety or trees. Has anyone else noticed that?

Lack of water.

No clue on the brix but for late season the flavor is great.

Only problem is how fast it goes bad from there.
Could you clarify what you mean by "how fast it goes bad?"

A day or two after it ripens.

We need to start showing some love for Little Gem as an insurance mango.

Its the most bulletproof mango in my yard.

I remove mine due to the disease factor and have never seen a second bloom from that.

Maria Black just isn't setting enough fruit compared to Day and Wurtz so I dug it up today.

My Wurtz tastes better and blows my Maria black away in production.

Thanks for the input - Wurtz has been a struggle for me. What dates of fruit maturity are you seeing for each variety?

Day September - November
Maria Black November December
Wurtz January- March

Thanks, JR! 20 fruit on a 15-25 gal tree sounds amazing to me. Do you happen to have a picture to share?

Strongly considering purchasing this one.

Its super loaded with fruit at the moment.

Im curious how much of this will hold.

Given the dwarf size, does wurtz need many years before it is productive? Does a wurtz tree have to be substantial in size before it can produce avocados?

I planted a 15 gallon 2 years ago and it really hasn't grown much at all.

It held about 20 last year and it just tries to set so much fruit I'm thinking that is slowing growth down.

I have limited space so that isn't a big deal in my yard but if you want it to be bigger I would think it needs a few fruitless years to get bigger.

I just got an email from Lara Farms that the 1 gallon Apmay Avocado I ordered back in August has shipped and will arrive tomorrow. I may plant it very soon. I planted a 1 gallon Ronnie last year soon after getting it and the Ronnie has thrived in the ground. How long until I pick my first Apmay fruit?

My Wurtz tree is approaching 5 years old and still below waist height. I moved it last fall. It's on the verge of being replaced with a Maria Black. Right now the Wurtz has more flowers than leaves. It dropped most of its leaves and is covered in flowers. Last year it dropped all its fruit.

My Wurtz tastes better and blows my Maria black away in production.

Maria Black is kind of tasteless to me and others that tried what I'm growing.

Im giving Maria Black this year to shine or its getting the chop.

Ive used so much of that builders sand.

Good luck Adam.

Eminent domain has always been one of those things that makes me scratch my head when people say we live in a free country.

I hope someone will ask him about keeping those tiny little 1 gallon Mamey trees alive long enough to put them in the ground.

The usual response is let it dry out between waterings and give it Miracle Gro once a month. We need more details on sun tolerance, wind, up-potting, and when it's safe to put in the ground.

As Chris explained to me recently that most people kill one gallons in pots due to overwatering and the fact the root system is so small it’s just too much for it to handle.

Now if you immediately put it in the ground it becomes much harder to flood the root system now that it’s not stuck in that tiny container.

So far Ive done this 1 gallons from Julian, Alex, and Chris with zero plant kills. Honestly Im just impatient and didnt know any theory up until recently about this. Makes sense though.

No doubt but what I meant was once PM appears you have already lost the battle against it.

Its something you have to be proactive about not reactive.

21
Calusa, would you keep spraying the white pirie tree if a majority of the fruit set looks like those pics above?

Basically, I am trying to determine when to stop spraying for PM when the tree actively has PM on it.

If it looks like that already the battle for this year is lost.

I would suggest spraying religiously the trees you have that show poor resistance to PM.

So that means when flowers start, every 7-10 days, and after rain events.

Also remember not to spray within 3 days of 85 degree temps.

We should get some rain Sunday, or late Saturday.
I think that is a good thing.

If it doesn't rain, should I water the trees, even the bigger trees to reduce fruit drop?

Should have already started when you saw fruit starting to develop.

Its important to get water on them in the first six weeks of fruit development.

Thank god for my drip line.

My trees get watered almost every day this time of the year.

If you are interested I have a M4 in a 15 gallon for $70.

I just took a large Fernandez tree out last week.

Without support any wind kept knocking it down.

Had it supported for the past year.

I was able to push it over and pull it right out no problem.

Love the fruit but the reports about what annona does to the brain and the fact the tree didnt want to stay upright sealed its removal.
