Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Vertical Mulched - Mallika

Those holes are huge.
I use 1Ē soil probe to do vertical mulching.

I read on this forum that soursop is compatible to muricata.
I have a graft of cherilata to soursop.
The graft union looks perfect.
Thatís why Iím trying out grafting soursop to Cherilata.
Iím keep 2 low branches of cherilata to nurse the rootstock when the soursop defoliate over winter.

I may try out grafting soursop to 48-17 and pond apple interstock later.

Some people have Soursop fruits from their trees, here in SoCal.

I have a small grafted tree in 7g pot, with 5 flowers right now.
I leave it outdoor, under eaves.

Soursop is easy to graft.
I graft them in late summer and early fall.
I havenít have a failure.

This is a 9/16 cleft graft with all leaves attached to scion.
Cherimoya rootstock, cherilata interstock, soursop at top.

A house near me had a few big trees with many fruits.
Fruits went bad in winter when we had frost in Feb every year.

My 5 year old seedling in pot has male flowers last winter.
Iím not seeing any now.

You should get a kombucha heat pad to keep the fruits warm.
Maybe itís enough to help young fruits through winter .
Iíll try it when my tree have a fruit.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I donít have any sugarlata nor reticulata grafts on cherimoya.
The others on your list have no issue with cherimoya.

I would train cherimoya to have 8 branches then graft those.

Rootstock affects rind.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: NDM flowering

NDM and Maha Chanok are flowering here too.

You can read more about jujube here.
I grafted some but no fruits to compare.

Soil inside a pot have perched water table.
The best way to lower this level is to tilt the pot.

I use 1/2Ē pvc nipple under 1 side of the pot when I need to drain water after a rain.
Try it if your potted plants canít handle high perched water table.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pumice, lava rock , or both ?

Pumice is fine.
Size doesnít matter.

Pine barks break down fast inside an orchid pot, but take years for mulch application.
I would switch to wood chips.

In the video the graft is called inlay bark graft.
On your tree the graft is called inlay side graft.

Fungi can perform miracles to extract nutrients from the biochar.

Could be a good rs for pot.

Dream looks like my Dream.

Looks good.

Thatís inlay side graft.
Itís my favorite for summer grafting Annona.
I use it for mango too.

Veneer is when you slice a thin strip of bark off the rs and scion.

Dream was best once.
Sweet and a little tart with firm texture.
The fruits tend split a few hours after winter rain so no good.
Difficult to get good fruits in my yard.

TS and prolific were best in my yard last year.
Had a sharp sweetness that I liked.

Gefner was sweet but bland sweetness.
My parents liked it.

Lisa tend to split 5 hours after winter rain.
AP2 was good the year before.
Ok last year.

I have HI PM.
Itís weakest on my multi grafted tree.
A fake.

I have a real PM that turns out to be fake.
Flowers and fruits look like AP

Both fake PM came from same seller.

Do you have a picture of HI PM fruit.

Peeling a strip of bark and sliding scion underneath is inlay.
Look up inlay bark graft.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Cleft graft in summer?
« on: August 24, 2023, 01:34:40 AM »
For summer grafting I use inlay side graft so the rootstock continue to grow while graft heal.
I trim the rs after the scion have leaves.

If graft fails I graft higher or lower.
No damage done.

I donít use cleft in summer.
Is this an option for you?
