chinese and japanese

(1/1)

keira:
I hang around quite a lot in fruit markets whenever I travel, and the interesting thing i've noticed is that pomelo is very popular among especially japanese and chinese tourists, much more that europeans or others... I wonder why...?
Also, for the chinese new year they are really into nectarines. (Maybe citrus come from China, and they have long tradition associated with it?)

Millet:
Citrus did originate to southern China and the Maylay  peninsula. - Millet

Radoslav:
Pummelo has religious importance for Chinese, especially during new year celebration, this is why chinese immigrants spread pummelo tree everywhere where they settled.
It is a simbol for abundance, prosperity, to have children, good health, family unity.
Also pummelo leafs are very important in chinese tradition, they are using them as a protection against bad ghosts. For example, they have leaf in pocket, when attend funeral, or put some leafs to the bath, when came back home. You can buy whole branches for this purpose on chinese market.
