I apologize if this is a stupid question but I am trying to get tasmanian pepperberry seeds and I have never had such a difficult time. My question is, I can get the "spice" which is dried fruit with seed in it but what are my chances that this was dried at a low enough temperature that the "seeds" would be viable? Does anyone have any experience growing this, do the seeds need to be "fresh"? I have a post in the buy/trade section but was wondering if just buying the whole spice would work (it does with some kitchen spices like coriander and fennel). thanks

short answer is gonna be maybe-

a lot of variables will come into play here- the ones you mention such as drying temperature and method but also freshness and several other factors

probably best just to try

The spice is dried at too high a temperature.
I think I still have some seeds if you want some.  They are hard to germinate.

I finally found a nursery in CA that has these and they told me the same thing as this forum, that you do not necessarily need male and females, the owner of the nursery (digging dog nursery) said that they clone from a singular bush and it flowers and fruits, so much for information from the internet.
