I didn’t have enough time to dedicate to figuring it out. I also lost interest.

Yes, the democratic method voted for a new mango subforum with 19 votes.  You know what to do site owner.

Delete the poll seems like my best option.

Cody Cove Farms in Central, FL has some varieties available currently: https://codycovefarm.com/shop/?wpf_filter_cat_2=56&wpf_fbv=1.

Thanks. I have all the varieties from Cody Cove Farms that seemed interesting.

I am still looking for any other superior varieties.

I don't think you will be able to tell the difference. i have most of the lemon varieties UCR/CCPP sells and there is nothing really special about any specific one.

You might just get the VI-692 or the VI-929 for starters. I have a fruiting VI-692, 2K and it doesn't taste any different than the Lisbon or Eureka lemon to me. Also tasted the Amafi Coast lemon and not a lot of difference to me.

You might like the 9lb lemon, check it out on the variety database, the fruit is huge, gets to 9lbs if properly feed. My lemon only got to 3 lbs since I grafted to a weak rootstock.

Most lemons have many crops a year so it should be the same for most. The popular variety from your list is the Santa Teresa, I have it grafted so I should be able to compare the taste to the 2K this year.

You might think about getting the Seedless Lisbon or the Seedless Eureka, tastes the same as the seeded version and has good fruit production.

Were you able to compare the taste of the Santa Teresa to the 2K last year?

Does anyone have any different cassava varities for sale or trade? Or does anyone know any sources online to purchase other cultivars?

I recently ordered 'Togo', 'CMC 40', 'Manteiga', and 'Shan's Yellow', from Cody Cove Farm & Nursery.

Thanks!

It does seem to me that it's probably the most popular fruit of discussion here on the forum in general. I think having it buttoned up in a separate area may be helpful. This said, getting engagement in the general forum with mango posts leading is not such a bad thing, because you'll also see the other threads below that are not mango related, but new.

I have seen forums die off due to pigeon holing subjects too much, and overall participation dropping because you don't see anything happening unless you're on that particularly busy offshoot, which can fly under the radar.

This is one of the main reasons we have avoided creating too many sub forums. I think the broader categories keeps things more active.

We're not sure what happened recently but we have two anti spam systems in place but somehow the recent set of bots were able to bypass both.

All new member registration now requires Admin approval. This should stop all spam, but I don't like requiring Admin approval for long because sometimes I forget to review the new members for weeks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Transplanting a mature mango tree?
« on: September 18, 2024, 12:32:36 PM »
I used to work at a fruit tree nursery that sometimes sold their mature mango trees that were in the ground. Some of the trees were around 20 years old with very thick trunks.

What they did was first dig a trench around the tree a few feet away from the trunk. The trench was a few feet deep and a foot or so wide. Then they would leave the tree like that for a few months to get acclimated to the root pruning.

After a few months all they had to do was pick up the tree with a bobcat and deliver it to the buyer.

Ahhh, interesting, Satya. I haven't had any of those, to my knowledge, though I have had Black Currant Jam. Thanks!
black currant is closer to jaboticaba in flavor, probably, than to red currant. they are very different, even different flavor profiles. The black one is opaque, more earthy forest berry kind of flavor, and has much less acidity but more sweetness, and a tiny bit tartness. the red one is juicy, transparent and, as you said, has brightness to it. I think you can find it sometimes in markets and Whole foods when they are in season.
Mangosteen always tasted like blood to me. Very irony flavor

Are you trying to eat the purple part?

cbss_daviefl and Satya, Thank You for this information!

My apologies, ben mango--how would you describe the taste? I've read associations with peach, lychee, strawberry, pineapple, citrus, and mango . . . If you have a better description, I'll see if it rings true for me.

I bought two containers, each having 9 fruit. Out of about 12 fruit so far, 3 have been inedible, including the extremely hard-shelled one I described earlier. The others have looked like the one in my photo. Definitely have a "brightness" to them, like they were injected with Sprite. I enjoy them very much.

What’s the address of the Costco that you bought them?

25
Well, I couldn't help but plant them . . . We shall see!
Of course you had to. I'm heading to Costco tomorrow 🤗

I went to two Costcos here in Palm Beach County but I couldn’t find any.

Did you have any luck?
