Tastes and texture closest to a mandarin orange dipped in light syrup IMHO.

Does anyone know of a nursery that was located in Boynton Beach Florida that was called Tropical Paradise maybe 30 or so years ago?  Owner moved to Loxahatchee Florida.  I've done a quick internet search but cant come up with anything.  Anyone know anything on the subject?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Illama germination
« on: January 20, 2024, 08:43:27 PM »
I havent sprouted that many of these seeds but the ones I did all sprouted after sitting dry for over a year.  Then I put them in small pots of dirt and within 2 weeks thry all sprouted, every single one.  Cherimoyas Ive done hundreds of and they pretty much give 100% germination also after sitting dry for a year then planting.

Seems unnecssary to me but whatever floats peoples boats.

I think most people would prefer getting seeds to sprout quickly with the use of ga3, not waiting an entire year.

thank you both for that info, will keep them under a tree till they get some size on them.

Is it ok to plant small (about 1 foot) grafted trees in full sun?  I'm on the treasure coast (10A) and had a white sapote in full sun, it didn't do well and ended up dying.  wondering if it got too much sun.  Should they be kept in dappled light until they are bigger before planting in full sun? I purchased another grafted plant and don't want to kill this one.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: My Grafted mangosteen
« on: October 08, 2023, 09:43:43 PM »
I've been burned too many times ordering from PR.  Plants either show up half dead or not the plant I ordered.  I looked up tropical plantae on eBay and they don't have grafted mangosteen.   Did you find them on another site?

I've purchased a few mangosteen seedlings from Hawaii that were totally legit and at a great price but can't seem to find anyone that will graft and ship them from Hawaii.

no need to risk a live plant shipped international with time in the mail, pest introduction or a usda visit . You could buy one from Florida , PR or Hawaii legally.

Who is selling grafted mangosteen in PR, Florida or Hawaii that ship?

19
not convinced it is a mangosteen.  i am very weary of ANYTHING coming out of puerto rico.  ive purchased multiple "mangosteens" and other plants from PR on ebay that turned out to be something else.  would you mind sharing who the seller was?

soak in ga3 first.  look this method up online.  you can plant right away if using this method.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: cheena vs jackfruit identification
« on: July 07, 2023, 06:29:00 AM »
IIRC Bobby Biswas said in a video that distinguishing feature is one has rings around the petiole of the fruits. He showed one that was said to be a hybrid, but since it did or didn't have rings he said it was pure jack. It may have been someone else.

i think he was referring to full chemps, not hybrids.

not sure why someone commented to drop white sapote.  its a highly underrated fruit.  i would rank it as my second favorite fruit on your list.  have never tried wampee and abiu is on top of my list.  if you have not tried it, definitely look into sampling some before removing it from your list.  it is also highly productive which might help with your potential issues with pollination.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / question about planting banana pups

Hi all, just wondering if anyone removes the roots from banana pups before planting them.  If so what is the reason.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Maria Black avovado
« on: May 26, 2023, 12:59:02 AM »
Does anybody know the story behind this avocado.  I remember someone talking about it a few years back but I can't find it.  We just picked up a couple small 1 gallon.  And trying to find the backstory.  I know it's a dwarf variety and that it produces large black avocados. I remember the founders name was actually "Maria Black" if im not mistaken.TIA

Hey Stela, its Sam.  I don't know much about this variety.  Yes Leaph has a beautiful specimen at his home, my wife and I admire the shape and size every time we walk through his yard.  We actually have a friend that lives a few miles away that grafted us a tree and its doing well.  He also speaks highly of this cultivar.  Wondering if I should put it in the ground or leave it in a pot and graft scions from it onto another avocado tree.
Paul Nison on FB might have some info on this variety, I believe he grows it and has posted a video or two sampling the fruit.

Thank you for sharing this variety with the group Kaz.  I was fortunate enough to get some scions (Vista White and KT-9 Lindsay) from you this year and most of them that I grafted took!  I'm over here drooling over the pics and cant wait till the tree fruits.
Do you have the brix reading of the KT-9 Lindsay?
