How about a t-shirt design similar to the below with some images of rare fruit over the respective county of origins.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Do I cut down my presimmon
« on: November 30, 2013, 02:02:10 PM »
I have a Winterset and two South FLorida Persimmon trees, all planted earlier this year. I got the Winterset from Treehouse Nursery. The tree, which is about 4 feet tall,  has four fruits on it.  One of the South FLorida persimmon trees flowered but the blooms fell off.

Since your winterset has fruit, can you post pics of the leaves? Is the one you call South Florida the cultivar? How long has that one been in the ground and how tall is it? Have you done anything special to the trees? Y'know lots of water / water deprivation, same with fertilizer?
I also have a 4 foot tall Winterset persimmon tree that I purchased from Excalibur nursery about a year ago. Even though it is small, I let it hold fruit to see how it was worth keeping. No special treatment given. Here is a picture:

Here are pictures of my Indian jujube taken this morning, including a couple dreaded fruit flies (on the stem above flowers).

“Bug B Gon max” lawn and garden insect killer, Bifentrin .3%. They list usability on some vegetables and citrus trees. Beside the citrus, I only used this on other fruit trees not holding fruit.

Two years ago I had a Sir Lankan weevil infestation, and reluctantly I applied a few products which didn’t work very well. What did work well for me was a product acceptable for fruit tree from Ortho with “bifenthrin” as the active agent. After wiping them out, I haven’t reapplied and fortunately, they have not come back in large numbers--yet.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Post pics of Pitombas!
« on: May 15, 2013, 03:11:57 PM »

Here is a picture of my Pitomba in the foreground. It recently fruited and the flavor was better than last year. I like them, however, they are not a top tier favorite.  I agree with Adam, the fruit needs to be fully ripe for the best flavor.  It just finished flowering again with what looks to be its best output to date. I did have a branch dieback recently.

Here is my Pickering planted (7gal) last October

Just ate some Julie mangos although it still is flowering. The 3gal tree was planted 7 or 8 years ago.

Generally, I fertilize monthly and add compost semiannually. Here is a picture of the tree with my Julie mango in the foreground.

The last Ore Negros came off the tree last week. Flavor and production were slightly better in the previous season.

My house is on about 1/3 acre with 32 trees.  26 of these are fruit trees, yes some too close to each other. I already have decided upon my next tree. Frank

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Weevils feasting on my Lychee tree
« on: June 03, 2012, 09:20:28 AM »
I have them again (they favored my leeches, longan, jujube, avocados, mango, citrus,,,,). I don’t like using pesticides, but last year, bad I applied Seven, neem oil, malathion,,, none  work very well for me. Systemic Imidacloprid didn’t seem like a good idea. By August they had gotten so bad, I called Pine Island Nursery and they said Bifenthrin worked the best for them. You need to spray the tree and underneath it. Definitely worked for me, however, being very toxic, and it appears the pests are here to stay, I don’t think if I will use it again. Frank

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Eleuthera Pineapple
« on: June 02, 2012, 03:24:09 PM »
That is SO cool...like Natalie I had NO idea there were seeds in some pineapples. I thought the only way to plant one is planting the tops. Learned something new today...Thanks!

Speaking of Pineapple...can anyone tell me the best way to tell when I should pick this one? I'm so afraid something will get it before I do. Thanks!

For a sweeter fruit it is best to let it mature on the plant. When maturing the fruit peel color changes to yellow progressively from the base to the top of the fruit.  I wait until the fruit has a completely yellow peel, and the fruit can be easily twisted off. Frank

Tried some in way back in 1975 when I was visiting on a surfing trip. I remember it was the sweetest pineapple I had ever had. Don’t know it if was fully ripped on the plant? It was so long ago I don’t know how it would compare to ones I have had recently?

The pineapple rum sounded very good, however, the quality of that vintage was mediocre.
