« on: March 10, 2023, 03:53:24 PM »
Does anyone know what this variety is, or what Morus species it is from? Thanks,
Alastair

p.s. I was given scions of this, and others, and was instructed to preserve these varieties for the future with successful grafting. I'm just wondering what I'm sitting on here.

You've got yourself a nice shahtoot mulberry (Morus macroura).

USDA-ARS Germplasm data below (although its not very informative):

Figo,

You should graft it on Black Pakistan, it will take fine. I have many white pakistan, shahtoot, Australian Green grafted on my Black Pakistan tree.

If you have a few extra cutting, let me graft it on my tree. I noticed the GRIN description says DMOR 38 is a male tree. I would be good for some breeding projects, not sure if you can use it for anything else.

I was gifted some scions myself this year and grafted it on my Florida Giant because it barely has any fruit in past many years and this variety is male selection as others have mentioned. Hoping to get more fruit on my Florida Giant or else will get the axe :( 8)

Robert, if you to graft some fruiting female mulberry then send me a PM.
I have the white pakistan, australian green, and saharanpur local which are all the long white fruits that is very sweet. Also have others if you want to graft to your tree.
