Why cant OP keep pruning the kent to allow condo varieties to grow?

He totally can.

But it will be something he will have to be super proactive about.

Nothing condo mango will be compatible with Kent.

Kent will out grow all of them in a flash.

As a guitarist I love hearing Johnny Winter references here.

As another form of social media, it comes with the territory, I guess.

Every single hobby forum/facebook group is exactly like this.

Ive been online watching people complain aggressively since the late 90s.

At this point it would be weird for elitists not to.

Jeeze. I just pick them off into a glass of soapy water early morning and the numbers have dropped over the years.

Should be interesting to see if the lawn grub treatment I applied this year slows them down even more.

Damn I missed out on loud Paul noises and bloody mangoes.

Well at least some people like this one.

Gave mine the chop last year, just too fibrous and the taste wasn't appealing to anyone that tried it.

Ive been picking mine when they start getting a yellow color break or when the stem gets brown dead looking.

Is this tree getting a good amount of sun?

The ones I have in more sunlight seem get more color then the ones hidden in the canopy.

I don't know Honey Kiss specifically, but 3 years old is pretty young. Sometimes even a regular bearing variety will take a year off when it fruits that young. It takes a lot of resources to bear fruit. That is why seed grown mangos go through a juvenile stage. I’d give it some time.

Honey Kiss flowers super easy.

I have a friend who I gave a grafted one that's already holding fruit the first year in a pot.

I'm top working non productive trees with this variety.

Here is one with about a year and a half growth after grafting.

I ate Guava mango for the first time and I was perplexed by the taste. I was expecting a classic fresh guava taste, which to me is somewhere between slightly sweet watermelon and strawberry. It just wasn't there for me. Guava Mango is very sweet and if anything, I tasted strawberry preserves mixed with classic mango. Then I thought about the sweet guava paste or guava jelly that is probably the most common way to consume guava and it clicked. I could see where some people would perceive the taste of mango mixed with guava paste, maybe? Anybody want to share their thoughts on the flavor here?

Guava is a good to very good mango with nice size, but not one I would grow with all the options we have. I don't think the flavor was distinctive enough or intense enough to be remarkable or unique.

Dwarf Hawaiian, on the other hand, was much more distinctive to me with a strong coconut flavor up front against a background of mandarin orange. The fruit is smaller than most and I can't lie, it has some fiber and stringiness to the flesh. It's more fibrous than most people will be accustomed to, but I really enjoyed the taste. It's moderately sweet and I love anything coconut flavored which biases my opinion in favor of Dwarf Hawaiian. I'm growing it as an early season mango and looking forward to eating more.

That's the problem with naming mangoes like that.

It creates an expectation that might not hit the mark.

Personally I wish they would stick to people names or places.

Totally worth it.

One of the easiest to grow and it fruits quickly.

Fruit is pretty good also.

You have to start trimming when they are young and keep up with it if you want to maintain a smaller tree.

No these trees are reliable every year.

Are you applying any type of lawn fertilizer near the tree?

I just learned something new about how to determine whether mango is ripe or not. Supposedly, when you cut the stem if the sap is milky then the fruit is not ready. If the sap is clear then it’s good to go. A little unorthodox since you have to cut the stem anyway but I’ll give that a try.

You should be also looking at the color of that stem before pulling it.

Usually good to pull if the stem is brown.

The guy is too eager to sell. He needs to let his grafts heal longer before selling. He is going to ruin his rep. If this guy gets enough 50/50 reviews he is going to suffer.

One new Fruitful Trees video and people will be climbing over each other to order whatever Paul hypes.

Just moved a Maria Black that was in the ground for a few years.

I cut almost everything off but a couple leaves.

Root pruned it enough to fit it in a 15 gallon.

Just planted it in my parents yard this week and it was putting out some serious growth.

I top worked a neighbors tree that was a seedling from publix and it just did nothing for like 15 years.

6 honey kiss branches now and its just doing great now. Only took about a year and a half.

I had a grafted variety and it just non stopped flowered and never set any fruit.

I didn't want 2 of them after trying tons of them so that was end of that tree here.

Maybe in time it will fruit.

In 5 years that day should be full of fruit.

I bought a 15 gallon maybe 2 1/2 years ago.

Its grown a ton and holding a stupid amount of fruit today.

Squirrels and birds started stealing from my Carrie. I picked a dozen fruits too but they are not ripe. Will take few more days for them to get there. There was one ripe enough which I ate. It was OK.  Nothing crazy. Brix measured at just above 15.
I still don’t get it how everyone is selling them now and mine are nowhere near being ready.
BTW, all the wildlife has been ignoring Kathy so far and the fruits on that one look pretty good.

Most of those mango farms east of 95 are basically on a sand hill which always puts them ahead of everyone.

23
For height Im planning on keeping the tree under 14 feet.

Honestly Im just pruning after flowering during the growing season to control the width. It wants to spread out but its easy to control.

The thought of putting up with HOA's makes me giddy.  Between that and property taxes (and FL HO Insurance cost to boot) on a paid off property, it's equivalent to a lifetime mortgage payment in your budget just to allow a group of unhappy people with legal power (funded by you) to dictate how you live on your property.  Makes me want to find one of those picture-perfect corporate-built neighborhoods and start living that dream today!

Kind of no choice in my city.

Only place available with no HOA is typically in the bad part of town.

But my HOA allows fruit trees every where here so I have no complaints.
