Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: red or pink finger like or desert lime
« on: January 11, 2024, 11:22:28 PM »
Is it the actual “red champagne” from Australia? They have a commercial variety they grow under that name that is meant to be quite good.

The “blood” they have is aka “red centre”. A cross I am told of finger and calamonsi. I have a few and have had fruit off of them. Certainly unique, but not worth their $100 price tag. I purchased two long ago when they sold for $45. They root decently well, but are very thin and rather hard to graft. Have an almost weeping habit. A little more zing than your average finger lime (although IMO finger limes aren’t very good in general)

This finger IMO that they’re listing now resembles Rick Red more than champagne, but wouldn’t ever really know for sure. The one I really desire is Crimson Tide.

I was able to source desert a while back from a friend but the graft eventually failed. However, being close with hershell has its perks. He claims he will have a few exotics available this summer at Madison. One being the Desert. So keep watch there!

Have you tried the blood lime fruit yet?   This is the one that logees original sold as red finger lime and then discovered it was the (rare?) blood lime?

I purchased 4 of these back when logees had them for $40.. now they're $100!

I have tried a few now. They're a little more potent than a finger lime. The outer rind is a deep burgundy while the inside is almost an emerald green. The vesicles are more teardrop shaped than circular.. Very appealing. I believe they are a cross of finger and calamondin if I remember correctly? The flavor certainly resembles it!

Who is Highlanders? I need it

Desert lime has high resistance to hlb and a lot of other things. I want the meyer lemon x desert lime cross. It seems to have the disease resistance of the desert lime for the most part but good tasting lemon like fruit and grows true to seed. It is used as root stock.

Where is this found?

I got one from highlanders. Not sure if he has any left though.

Has CCPP got these? If so, I'm about to place my order. Since I assumed it wasn't in the United States, I didn't even ask them. I tried to place an order, but after tracking (and, I assume, permissions), it costs roughly $50 USD to send out 20 seeds Who knows if they will survive? At that price, I don't think I could risk it.

Seeds or cuttings from who?

The desert lime appears to be unaccessioned in the CCPP which case youd have to request theyll have to reintroduce it again to buy cutttings and that takes literal years lmao.

also there is a link inserted in a period in your post about golf lazers  :P

I heard rumors that our main man Hershell at Madison Citrus is working on desertlime reintroduction and likely will have the variety in the coming year available. I know he’s working on a wicked amount of interesting trees right now.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Procimequat x poncirus
« on: November 09, 2022, 10:35:22 PM »
If you’re looking for prociemquat, I know woodlanders has a few left. Had to email them directly to request it and they were happy to send me some. I plan to use both prociemquat and Kinzu in future breeding projects. I believe and was once told that they must be used as male parent as they’re around 99% nucellar as a female.

I recently purchased a lot of US942 from Madison, fantastic rootstock. Comes a in most times a little over pinky finger thickness.. and I have fat fingers.

I actually have a few really nice rooted cuttings available. Otherwise, try calling Briteleaf. Odds are they have some as well “in the back”

Do you feel these would be best for grafting or do you think they'd root decently on their own?

They’re not that fresh anymore, been in the fridge since post origin. I’d say grafting is the safest bet. Kumquats are harder to root in my opinion.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: How to control a thrips infestation

I had thrips forever on my citrus, spinosad was the only thing that ever worked for me after trying all types of oils and other things. Spinosad worked amazing.

Some info on it.

I don’t know of anywhere you can purchase these in the states. “It originates from southern Italy, Sicily, derived from a mutation of a classic “Femminello Lemon”.”

Asking $15/good scion with 6+ great buds plus shipping. 3 sticks available.

Will trade for other interesting varieties as well.

Lots of cuttings now available. Same prices as above. Message me for details! Rooted cuttings are all sold out, but will have a good amount available for spring.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Gummosis problem
« on: August 26, 2022, 01:23:48 PM »
My variegated lemon did the EXACT same thing. However, it was a clipping and not a graft. I'm not sure if the variegation causes more weakness and susceptibility to crown rot, etc. I tried treatments using organicide plant doctor and phyton 35 a couple of weeks apart. Anyway, it lost all its leaves and died and I decided to go with a much taller grafted version which has had no problems. Good luck to you!

Mine is a rooted cutting as well, however I've used "Garden Phos" an few times now and it seems that the gummosis has slowed, it also is still pushing out new growth so I assume I might be in the clear and caught it early enough.

I think most citrus are rather susceptible to root rot, trifoliate are highly resistant. So most grafted trees are unaffected for the most part.
