I did a bunch of grafts today and the bark was slipping really easily.  Super happy with that.  Perfect weather here now for avocado top working.  Even hardened off brown wood was easily slipping.  And the scion wood is perfect.

I can make another video this week.  Last years trees had 100% success rate of top working on around 50 trees all done in december.

You can just let it rot if it does rot then cut it away and it only needs the wood core and will be fine.  It does not cause any problems.

It grew slowly here and has tight node spacing and the canes are really fat.  It probably does better in different climates but for here the jamaica stripe seems to grow better. 

I had cut the big stripes out but some are coming back if you want it Bill.  I don't recommend growing it but if you want it I have it...

Why not grow some cherries or whatever will grow there?  Do people grow cherries?

I saw it but doubt its anything special based on their other releases.  But who knows, maybe it will be amazing and everyone will top work all their hass trees with it.   

Or maybe just hype it up and collect royalties until the hype wanes. 

S8 is the best.  Just my opinion.  Cant beat it.  Theres one called pink panther thats really similar also does great.  I quit caring for my DF plants and just let them go and we only get fruit off s8.  Lots of fruit with zero effort.  And taste is best and the vines are hardy.

Also ditch the stake and green tape.  Its choking the tree.  The tree needs to hold itself up at this point.  Hass and fuerte both dont need staking. 

I think if you prune it hard and paint all the bark it may have a shot.  Even this may not save it. At some point they just get screwed up for good and its better to replant. 

Hello, once the tree gets too much sun on the bark they can go into decline and become stunted.  It wont recover from this case.  Its too late to try and paint it and save it from getting to this stunted point. 

You wont like my advice but to save the tree, you will need to paint the bottom few feet of trunk white and then top the tree at around 2-3ft tall.  Then next year it will grow out of this condition most likely.

I think the good tree is the fuerte.  The leaves looks like fuerte but I am not certain on that.  The fuerte has some specles on the new growth i believe.

Good luck with the tree.  It was most likely not anything you did other than planting out the tree into full sun and it just didnt get its legs in time to be able to adjust to that much sun input.  It happens to me too and I have lots of trees.  Sometimes they just cant take the summers and get into this state despite plenty of water.

I have this tree also and they are good but I think Fuyu is better. 

The full tree leaf strip should come right before the tree wakes up from winter.  Around February or March here. 

But you can continue to do it through summer to get more flowers.  But this time dont strip the whole tree.  Just strip back some leaves towards the inside of the tree on big branches where a good fruit will form.
