« on: June 19, 2025, 03:28:21 PM »

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona grafting compatibility
« on: March 31, 2025, 07:19:03 PM »
I just grafted up a few annonas here in San Diego.

I checked the descriptions of the flowers. I have for rootstock A. Montaña, A. Reticulata, A. Neolaurifloria, A. Cherimoya A. Salzmannii, and Rollinia Parviflora. The scions I grafted are A. Longifolia, A. Cornifolia, A. Emarginata, A. Pickelii, Rollinia Herzogii and some "Miami" variety of Soursop.

Has anyone had any experience and success grafting any of these? If so what rootstocks did you use?

4
Many of the scions are no longer available, most annonas have already "budded out"
I have the following scions ready for harvest and grafting and rooting.

They are $6 each and $6 shipping. Let me know if you want to pay by PayPal, Venmo or Zelle. Sorry but I can only send to USA addresses.

Please send me a private message so I can keep track of what you need.

If you pay by PayPal please use Friends/Family include in the notes your address, name and what scions you want. PayPal is mleesrfr1@yahoo.com

At the bottom of the post is a link to photos of the fruit from last years post. Some of the items in the photos are not available this year.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Unusual Mountain Soursop from Jim West seeds
« on: September 18, 2024, 12:52:16 PM »
I planted seeds I got from Jim West 12 years ago of a Mountain Soursop. This is the first fruit that formed. The seedling was in a pot for probably 5 years. The tree is now 8X8 feet. This is the first fruit and is actually not bad tasting. Some suggested it could be some sort of hybrid, and at Jim's place he has so many varieties and species it could be. Does anyone have Mountain Soursop that look like this?

Here are leaves, the one on the left is a A.Muricata, and the right A.Montaña.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona Montaña fruited in California
« on: September 11, 2024, 10:15:46 PM »
Finally my first Mountain Soursop (Annona Montaña) dropped, not as tasty as the regular one, but with the seeds I'll try and graft regular soursop and see if it handles the cold as well as the Mountain Soursop. This is down in coastal San Diego, not sure if anyone is growing this in California. This a seedling from Jim West.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / California growers of Luc's Mangosteen?
« on: September 06, 2024, 05:52:07 PM »
This is my grafted Luc’s mangosteen grafted onto Imbe after 6 years. It is the one I'm holding onto with a towering Imbe to the right and a huge Biew Kiew longan to the left. This is growing in southern San Diego, 3 miles inland. The tree is at least 15 feet and has a thick truck.

I'm just wondering if anyone has at least flowers on theirs, either in California or another Mediterranean climate.

I have two mature trees grafted with 8 varieties. They have been fruiting here with less than 80 chill hours for the last 3 years. Here is a photo of the last 2 huge "Taylor" varieties picked today. One is 1 lb. and the other 3/4 lb. Here is a video of our trees on youtube.
