Citrus General Discussion / Re: New Zealand lemonade fruit
« on: November 09, 2022, 11:58:08 PM »
Interesting.   This is my first fruit ever.  I may need to wait a while until the fruit gets better.  Also, the are 2 still green on the tree.  Maybe this was just a bad one.  Looking forward to less sourness!

Citrus General Discussion / New Zealand lemonade fruit
« on: November 09, 2022, 12:13:22 AM »
Was very excited that I had a ripe fruit on the ground today.  Brought it in and ate that bad boy up.  I think it fits true to the name.  It was 60% sour lemon, 40% sweet (I couldn't detect any mandarin flavor) and it had a lime after taste.
I think it is just a tad too sour for general public, but, it was tantalizingly close.  For all of us fruit nuts, I think it's a pretty good fruit.  Oh, and it was pretty juicy.

If anyone has a sweet variety of changsha fruiting and have some to spare coming up, I'd like to purchase some of your fruit and have it shipped to my house.  It is a favorite citrus variety of mine .

Anyone ever seen a multi grafted pluerry online for sale?

I have tried different varieties and they all croak.  A problem I have is no sun coming in my windows in winter.  I tried grow lights with no luck.  Anyone have the secret to growing this plant indoors in winter?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / California lilac
« on: August 25, 2022, 11:28:50 PM »
Just making sure that ceonanthus is named CA lilac because of the flower color and not the scent.
I'd love to grow anything that had a lilac fragrance, so I'd buy one in a second if it did.
Are there any tropical or subtropical plants that have flowers with a lilac fragrance?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Coffee
« on: August 25, 2022, 11:26:12 PM »
I know everyone grows coffee for the beans.  But, does any coffee produce fruit that is pleasantly edible?  Would be nice to have a plant with a dual purpose.

I think I made a mistake with my mother's citrus tree.  I got a tangerine tree on clearance at Lowe's a few years back.
I cannot remember the variety, but, I think after having the tree for a few years that the flavor will always be sweet tart.
My mom is a boomer that was spoiled rotten bt her greatest generation mother.  Never forced her to try anything unusual.   She is extremely meat and potatoes.
So, even though the tree is very healthy, I think u am going to take it down because my mother always complains that the fruit are too tart.
So, what would be a good suggestion on a mandarin or orange that has a flavor that would appeal to someone that grew up in the 50's/60's, is very sweet and not tart.

I'm in Scottsdale and I'd like some, too.  If you find someone selling them, double the order and I'll pay half.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / 2nd try, is this maprang?
« on: August 11, 2022, 12:51:17 AM »
I used to go shopping with my mom and grandma when I was little.  So, unfortunately I am a sucker for a good deal.
Found this sold as maprang online.  Verdict?

Well, there is a difference if you ask about Shamus vs. The others.  Like, moon valley us a horrible rip off and they don't know what they are doing.  The other growers, you'll hear they have plants mislabeled, don't know their inventory well enough, make promises they can't keep.
But, if you ask about Shamus, there will be a consensus.  He is a very, very bad person.  Has nothing to do with his business, just him as horrible human being.

I would rather have a colonoscopy everyday for the next 10 years than to give 1 cent to Shamus O'Leary.  There might not be a bigger a$$hole in the state of AZ.

I had one in the ground and it fizzled out.  Going to try growing it in a pot.  Just got scammed on etsy by someone sticking a rose cutting in a ball of mud and saying it was a jocote, spondias purpurea.   >:(

Yeah.  And darn, it's doing so well, too.

The next your palm seeds, I'd live to purchase some from you.  I have been looking for this palm for a long time and have not had good luck.

I saw a couple of weeks ago that someone bought what was sold as a maprang on ebay from Puerto Rico was actually a mango.
Of course, I had purchased a supposed mango from a Puerto Rico nursery, but on etsy.  So I am crossing my fingers this is a maprang.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Peaches and Plums in hot climates
« on: June 30, 2022, 11:34:12 PM »
I have peach trees growing exceptionally well in the Arizona desert.  I have plums, they grow well, but not quite as good as peach trees.
An absolute winner is spicezee nectaplum.  Grows like a weed.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: GuavaKing on ebay - Scam?
« on: June 29, 2022, 01:05:56 AM »
I left it in a pot for 2 years before planting.  Didn't know where I wanted it, then I had a tree that was in afternoon AZ sun, and I knew guava could take the heat.  So I planted it last September.  Also, I think I was underwater ing and underfertilizing the tree.  So, he is stillsection in the benefit of the doubt section.  He'll fall out next summer if no fruit, lol.

I tried growing it out here in AZ.  It was watered well, but my summer heat fried it and maqui berry.
Not sure how much heat they can take, but, I think central FL might be too hot.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: GuavaKing on ebay - Scam?
« on: June 27, 2022, 11:59:41 PM »
Well, I was reading on this site that you needed to buy Mexican cream guava from a reputable seller and the varieties they have at the big box stores sell trees that create poor quality fruit.
So, I went onto guavaking on ebay and purchased an air layered mexican cream guava 3 years ago.
Then, about a week after purchase, I read on here not to buy from guavaking.  🤦‍♂️
All I can say is that the tree is in the ground and growing quite well.  I'll give an update if it ever fruits.
