I haven’t made Sugarcane juice for several months now and I forgot to report back how the motorized unit works. Well, it works great. It makes juicing so much easier although I am getting a lot less exercise now. It is still a difficult task cleaning the sugarcane stalks and I get plenty of exercise doing this but at least I can relax during the juicing portion.
I can now juice a full gallon of juice relatively easily and doing several gallons is much easier now compared to doing it manually.
My main issue with the motorized unit is that it doesn’t have enough torque to power through large pieces of cane. My Sugarcane is typically thick to I have to cut the medium sized canes in half and my larger pieces need to be quartered. If you run thick pieces through the unit, it will just stall and I have to power it down and reverse the wheel manually.
The second issue with the motorized unit is that for some reason, my juice seems to have more bits of fiber in it. To circumvent this issue, I simply filter the juice through a single layer of cheese cloth.
I tried to run the juice through a coffee filter but it clogged instantly.
Here’s the final product
The San Diego Yellow juice, still yellow after 24 hours. I added lemon juice as an antioxidant
The Asian Black juice. The juice color is dark because I juice with the skin on so the color from the peel comes off with the juice. The juice from the Asian Black is exceptionally good this year.
These two Sugarcane varieties are must haves for anyone who loves Sugarcane juice. I don’t give my kids soda so this is a real treat for my two daughters. The Sugarcane plant is like a giant sweet Wheatgrass that can uptake all the good nutrients in the soil so if you feed your plants with good nutrients, you can expect the plant to suck up some of those nutrients which goes back into the juice you drink.
